I know I read about this here before, but no matter how hard I search I can't find it.

I have an electric AC system in my car with a 572 hemi.  I'm looking for an alternator that is putting out more than300 amps that will fit my 70 challenger. I seem to remember about one that puts out 360 amps.  Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks Chryco and Purple1.  I'm on it.  Looking at one from Quality Power also 320 amp with 180 amp at idle.  :woohoo:

Holy heck: You are using welding cables for power leads I hope. I don't think semi trucks have that big of an alternator.

good gravy thats a lot of current. EVERYTHING turned on my car only pulls like 68amps [radio, headlights, full blower, e-fan, efi running], I had an inductive ammeter hooked to my 160a alternator.

What is the benefit you are seeing by running the electric? Do you not have room for an engine driven compressor?

Mostly, I just wanted to keep the engine bay cleaner.  No visible compressor or hoses. The compressor is under the passenger fender and all the hoses are hidden from view.  :lurking:

The idea sounds neat all right. That should clean up the engine bay pretty good although then you have a big butt alternator.
