I posted a few weeks ago on if I should retain the stock ignition system as I had just bought the car.
Well, upon digging deeper it has some old school Mallory system I've never seen before. I'm guessing it's 20 years old or more? Thought it was just the Mallory ignition box, but the distributor is funky looking and again, not sure how old this system is.

Anywho, I will need a system for the 340-6 I don't care about stock looks. I want what's reliable with a stock motor setup.

Pertonix Flamethrower? MSD? Go back to a stock type electronic Mopar performance with orange box ecu?

Any and all ideas appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm using a OEM stock electronic distributor from NAPA with GM HEI module and e core coil. I like it, works real well. If doing over I would look at FBO http://4secondsflat.com/. Don't hear too many complaints about MSD either.
I added a relay, triggered by using the original ignition 1&2 wires (brown and blue) to power the ignition and eliminated the ballast resistor.

Is the one in there now working good?

Not sure. Car is not running due to fuel issues. But some are telling me this setup is clsoe to 40+ years old? I just want a new system for peace of mind.

New system will still need to be tuned. NO SUCH THING as an out-of-box ignition that's built exactly for you!

Ship yours out, pay a little, get back your unit which looks brand new....he prefers petronix and swears by it. I'm sure he's done over 1,000 distributors.

Another vote for FBO.

One phone call and FBO will get your system set up to your engine.

I'm confused? What is FBO? Is that the Faron Rhoades person?

I think it depends on what type of driving you do and what performance expectations you have. The factory style Chrysler orange box ignition works just fine for regular use. :alan2cents: Why over complicate things ?

The stuff you have may be sought after by guys wanting vintage parts ? :dunno: maybe it has some value ? :bigmoney:

I have an FBO box sitting here. I originally called Don for the bushing set he sells for the MSD Dizzy. I had a old MSD box branded Mopar Performance
on the car and he talked me into buying his box. Changed it out and it ran like crap. When you jump on it it would instantly just bog down. Called him and he originally said
there must be something wrong with the box send it back. So I did. Well he sent it back to me and told me the box is fine there's something wrong with my car. ??????

The car ran liked a raped ape before I changed the box out. No BS. After changing the wiring for the new plug on his box ( the MSD BOX is hard wired with power)
I bought a $12.00 orange box from Mancini Racing and plugged it in. The car again ran great.

If I was to change the box out again I would try the Rev-n-nator.  :alan2cents:

If you want to try the FBO box I have on sitting here still in the box that he sent back to me. Real cheap....lol

I don't know what to suggest. Recently I have had MSD, orange and chrome box failures. 20 years ago anything would work and last for years.

RevNnator works great but it retains the ballets resistor and maintain the factory wiring setup and look. I am now running MSD 6AL multi-sparks with their billet distributor using Fitech to control timing and got rid of the ballets resistor. It is running great so far about 800 miles.
