So, I have what appears to be a starter solenoid poorly mounted to the drivers side fender. Why? Isn't the solenoid part of the starter for a 70's 318? If not a starter solenoid, what is this? TIA

That's the starter relay but it looks like it's from a tractor or something :haha:

It looks like all the solenoids I had on my 65, 66 and 68 mustangs. Should it be on a 1973 Barracuda though?

Here's the typical E Body one (70-74 all the same)

Thinking the same thing... would be right at home in my 67 Fairlane.  :D

Probably a Ford guy owned it before you!

Question is, does it actually connect to the starter? People use them for all sorts of things...

JS29

Absolutely Ford! and people use them for other purposes. If that dose connect to the starter, that would be a new one on me. I see them used a lot with snow plows.   :alan2cents:

Ya, it will do the job for sure. It will also start a lot of conversations when the hood is up.
I have one in my car....in the trunk. Part of the battery relocation wiring so I don't have a live +ve wire all the way to the fender mounted chrysler start relay unless I'm starting the car.

There's fender mounted relays and there are starter mounted solenoids on these cars.
