Hi all, wanted to see what the opinions are re: wire harnesses for e-bodies.  I did a google search and found a lot of topics surrounding existing / used harnesses but am curious as to what everyone is doing for their restorations?

I have the original wiring in the car and all looks pretty complete but has some gremlins for sure, specifically the steering column connector and the fuse block / firewall connector having some contact issues.

Was thinking about just replacing everything with something like Classic Industries offers - looking for thoughts on quality / accuracy of aftermarket wiring harnesses or suggestions and alternatives - thanks

Went through the electrical section and found the discussion re: M&H, which seems like the brand of choice.  Only downside is the fuse box being for '71-'73 cars... can anyone share the differences and if it is worth trying to hold on to the '70 fuse box?  Anyone modify a new harness with your old fuse box for a '70?  Am I overthinking?

I think your only option for the under dash harness is M & H which is what Year One and Classic sell. I don`t see why you couldn`t swap out your `70 fuse block to make it correct.

I've never tried or even looked closely but how could one accomplish this?

May have answered my own question.  Found a pic online.  Would you pull the wire connectors from the terminals?

Are you sure the ones that classic industry sells are m&h? I know M&H and year one had an exclusive contract for a number of years, when I had to order my slant 6 engine harness M&H had to get approval from year one in order to reproduce it. Because of the pain in the ass I had two sets made

All of the main dash harnesses are manufactured under contract by M&H for Year One.  Then Year One becomes the distributor/vendor for the M&H dash harnesses to the other retailers.  M&H is also locked into Year One on the forward lamp, engine and tail lamp harnesses that they supply.  Bill Evans also provides the forward lamp, engine and tail lamp harnesses to various vendors and he sells retail as well.  So when it comes time to place your order, make sure to ask your retailer who is the supplier for the forward lamp, engine or tail lamp harness.

Yeah, the terminals just snap into the plastic.
No biggie, I replaced my under dash and just used the 71-74 block that it came with
The horn relay is different on the 70.

Online pics look identical, not sure but I don`t think anyone else makes an under dash harness.

I looked on M&H site and it says they sell exclusively to Year One so definitely ask when purchasing.

Anyone have a photo of a '70 vs' 71 fuse box?  Is it only the horn relay?

From M&H: "The fuse box supplied with the harness is for a 1971-73 car. This was done in order to consolidate tooling as the only difference is in the configuration of the horn relay. A horn relay is supplied with the harness"

Would anyone even notice or care if I just go with the '71 that comes with it?  Not building a 100 point restoration, but where feasible I would like to remain true to stock - just to say I did

The only thing anyone would really notice is the relay at the top, *if* anyone pokes there head down to specifically see ... and I don't think anyone would care unless you're looking to build a high points/concours restoration. If anything, I'd be happy to know the whole harness was replaced by seeing it

If you don't go new with an M&H harness, Tommy at Parts Hound can rebuild / repair / restore your OEM harness.

Classics pic of the harness they sell literally says M&H right on the sticker.

So I would assume that they are a reseller from Year One. The funny thing is, it's 30 bucks cheaper from classic industries for the same one.
