4 speed 18 or 23 spline choice

I'm slowly starting this build , have about a 9-10 year time frame, have a 67-440 for it, so checking out driveline items first.
Big ticket items like body will definitely have some more savings to do .

@Racer57 , your 23 is just the start to another ride !

Basic economics...supply and demand.  For a street car a 23 spline is ok to 500-550HP, as stated the 23 spline is much stronger than most will give it credit.

I have a couple guys locally(no shipping hassles) that I promised that if I were to want to get rid of it, I would contact them first. Sorry.

The input shafts of the two transmissions are different sizes. The 18 spline is stronger than the 23 spline  transmission only because of the larger diameter input shaft. If the shaft sizes were the same, then the 23 spline transmission would be the stronger of the two, As far as input shafts go.

Been doing some reading trying to find the reason that more splines with an equal size shaft is stronger.
At first my thinking was more splines would be weaker due to more material removed and thinner splines.
Now thinking it is stronger with more splines because it puts less stress on each spline because the stress is spread out over more splines.

Is that the reason for more strength with more splines ?

Usually with axles they use the same spline size & shape but more of the so the diameter will increase
Diameter si praabbly more important than spline count overall , the shape of the spline can affect strength as well

usually the higher spline count are cut more shallow and the lower count are cut deeper so if the shaft is the same diameter the fine spline (higher number) will be stronger.
