4 speed problem ?

Hi just asking a Question for a friend . He just took delivery of he's 66 charger hemi 4 speed car here is oz .The problem he is  having when backing up the shifter is jumping out of reverse. It's a factory A833 that's all I know at this stage. Was it a common problem,or is there an easy fix ,Any feed back would be very much appreciated thank you

Typically, a gear popping out is from a bad synchronizer but there is no such thing for reverse as far as I know.

Easiest check would be to make sure the plates in the shifter are aligned properly. 

Other potential causes are a worn gear or worn bearings. 

I can't speak to whether this was common or not.

Try adjusting the rods?

How old or worn is the shifter? Had the same issue with 3rd, changed the shifter mechanism and the issue went away.....
