46RH overdrive housing question

This one is a real shot in the dark question. 

I found a seller with a 46RH 2WD transmission core but he said there is a crack in the overdrive housing proper (not the main transmission case).  Also has a mid-year 46RE overdrive (has speedo gear support on the output shaft but electronic governor).   Does anyone know if the guts of the RH overdrive can be transplanted into the RE overdrive case (and just plug the governor sensor hole in the case)?   Many of the parts are the same except the output shaft, the actual governor and support, and feed tubes. 

Or do we need to have an actual 46RH overdrive case?
