727 floor shift linkage mod for TTI headers

Just fitting up a set of TTI 2 inch primary headers with 3 and 1/2 inch collectors on a 440 727 combo in a 72 Challenger. I'm trying to use factory floor shift set up. The instructions for the linkage mod are not even close to being functional. Anyone have experience or solutions to make this work?

Welcome!  I've had a couple e bodies with TTI exhaust and have not had any issues. Although your exhaust is bigger than what I've ever ran, 3" being the largest. Their site says "may require the adjustable swivel & the lower rod to be re-positioned to clear the header collector"and "Applications with a 3-section throttle rod will require modification to the bell-crank & pivot shaft". Do you have any pics?

Not quite the same, but I just installed the TTI headers on my small block challenger with a 727 and slapstik shifter.   :wrenching:  The headers come with those instructions about flipping the shift rod.  I don't think they apply to all applications.  I left my shift linkage as it was and installed the headers with no issues. Decent clearances, not great, but more than enough to work.  Have you left the rod in the factory location and tried to install?

I've got more time in with the transmission cooler lines vs headers/collectors than I did with the shifter!

I installed TTI exhaust, but without the headers. I didn't know about flipping the linkage, so I had the exhaust shop put a small dent in my pipe in order to clear the linkage. Not a big deal because I'll eventually get TTI headers, and that dented section will be replaced with the headers/collectors.

Thanks guys, looks like I will have to fab up new linkage. Threaded rod ends with Heinz joints. No way was original linkage going to work.

Yes, exactly. I'm going to use 5/16 partially threaded rod with these at both ends, one right hand thread and the other left hand. This will allow length adjustment by rotating the rod. This floor shift setup is from a doner car and the appears previously modified. I can restore the actuation to minimize resistance or potential binding. Parts on order.

How about shortening the bracket that attaches to the trans tail shaft & supports the lower end of the bellcrank.... Should be able to pick up an easy inch plus...

The main shaft only has 1/4 inch of side clearance to the trans housing.

I wonder why your having issues when there are literally thousands of sets of TTI headers out in circulation that don't have any issues...
