Hello ebodies !  :grouphug:

My 440 will go to machine shop for .030 (1978 440)

So my new setup :
pistons :  L-2355F 30
new connecting rod from 440 source
Stealth head
Hp manifold
holley street dominator intake
10CR approximately
I'm not sure about the camshaft. I thought about XE274H OR XE284H but maybe too much for HP manifold... I love the sound of the whiplash cam but I don't want to choose a camshaft based on sound.

brand new  Breakaway TCi torque converter with those setup ?

It's for my 70 Challenger with 3.55 rear end   tires 265/45/14
Power brakes
Power Steering

I haven't placed my summit order yet. If there's anything I need to change, now's the time.  :ebay:

I have already : Stealth head,HP manifold and the street dominator

Please forgive my English I live in Paris

Thanks a lot

Lunati makes a far better camshaft look for something similar in their Voodoo line.
you need a cam wth a 112* LSA for HP manifolds to work best , 110* works better with headers
You probably want something in the area of 2400 stall in the converter .

I prefer these pistons because they are lighter and your rods and rod bolts will last better especially if you rev it past 5000RPM.  Not sure if they make a .030 anymore though. If you do use the 2355 it's a good idea to get your machinist to mill about 100 grams from the underside of them (there is lots of material to do so).

I prefer Lunati cams, I believe they are manufactured better and they seem to perform better. I have never had any luck with Comp Cams in a big block Mopar, they have a great advertising campaign though. This camshaft has worked great for me in a similiar application.

I've had bad luck with TCI torq convertors too. I would suggest a Hughes. I would probably do the Hughes 3000 stall convertor with the above camshaft but I'm not sure what your intended use is for the cam so I went milder for better highway drivability.

Understood for the LSA and lunati cams I'll take a look

The price for the ross piston  :stop: with this price, Might as well change the connecting rods and put in .990

Hughes torque converter ok for me. Yes the 3000 to high for my street use I think.

Maybe go down one step for you cam ? Like this

But 110 LSA..

You could get that cam custom ground with 112* lsa
You could also do the 440 Source 512 CI stroker build

Yes, good choice. The 2355's will work, just keep the revs down to 5000 or 5500. I'm pretty aggressive and I can break an anvil.
I was thinking the same as CP though. Add up the cost of new rods, pistons, rings, bearings and consider one of these in a matched package for $2699. Pretty much no drama with the 440-500 kit.

I was looking for a camshaft with a 112 LSA,

I saw by chance on a summit brand camshaft.

What do you think ?

The six pack piston + rod is cheapier than a stroke kit..

Chryco Psycho

Call Lunati & order the cam you looked at with 112* Lsa , the price is the same .

Do you have power brakes that get vacuum from the intake ? If so, will your cam provide enough ?

Before tear down, The power brakes get the vaccum on my fitech, it's OK.

lunati , Summt won't grind a custom cam

What's the difference between 112 LSA and 114 LSA ?

Chryco Psycho

The Intake & Exhaust centerlines are moved apart with less overlap so there is less time both valves are open at the same time , headers provide better scavenging allowing the exhaust to pull in the intake charge , with manifolds you can get reversion where the exhaust will start to push the intake charge back into the intake manifold .

As someone who has no 1st hand knowledge I recently watched an Engine Masters episode where lobe separation was the topic, coincidently they use a mild 440.. My take away was the narrower the lobe separation(smaller number) the lower in the RPM range torque is produced and greater horse power all else being the same.   The reason you would not want narrow lobe separation is for drivability needed on a street driven vehicle.
I believe this is the episode, you would have to subscribe to view...

I would also recommend the 440 Source 512 Stroker kit.  My 440 is also .030 over with the 440 Source 512 stroker.  However, my engine builder replaced the pistons with custom Diamond slugs.  I'm running a custom Bullet hydraulic roller cam with 111 Lobe separation with 234/241 duration at .050 and .552 lift.  I'm also running the Holley Dominator intake (on Chrycro's suggestion), an 880 CFM Quick Fuel vacuum secondary carb and Pro Maxx aluminum heads with upgraded HD valve springs.  I also have factory power assisted front disc brakes and I have no issue with vacuum (run off the manifold) for the brake booster.  However, I am running TTI 1 7/8" headers and I have a 4-speed instead of an auto.  With this combo I have no problems running up to 6500 RPM.
