I pulled the tarps off my car after this winter the other day and I have what I think is corrosion on my alt case and some of the carb parts like the linkage. I assume it is corrosion.  Kinda looks like mold from a distance but isn't. The tarp probably trap moister in is my  guess. I also had a  bottle of muriatic acid some what near  by but  I don't think it was that, but I had a bad experience with a leaky bottle of that stuff. Ugh.

Anyways, any one deal  with this? Is  there any preferred  way to  clean it up? some of the carb parts have a coating on them so I don't  want to take it  to the wire wheel. I will start with some scotch brite pads and/or 000 or 0000 steel wool to see if  either of  those work.

You'll probably need something to get into the nooks and crannies.  I'd try a small brass wire brush.
