Couple of original Six Pack engines

A buddy and I painted our engines today.  Kinda fun doing a 340 Six Pack and a 440 Six Pack at the same time.     :wrenching:   Hoping to get the T/A on the road before summer is over.    :burnout:

Nice, how come you don't install the exhaust manifolds first ?

Which T/A is this that you're working on ?

Were they painted like that from the factory - basically (mostly) all assembled?

I guess I like engines a lot more when they have a little variety of color - bare metal intake, black or chrome (or combo of the two) valve colors, painted block, etc.

Yes this is how they were done from the factory only not as nice.  I prefer the more intricate detailed look also. But if you doing a correct car this is the right way.

I thought the exhaust manifolds were painted with the engine color also.

I am guessing here but I doubt you machine build or paint your engines right Alan , you just send them out & pick them up built ?

I send them out for rebuild, then I do all the detailing and final paint. Thanks for asking. :cheers:

Yes, somethings like the exhaust manifolds I like the details look of unpainted even though it's not factory OEM correct, but I like the detail it gives the engine bay having it unpainted.  Fuel pumps get painted on some engines like 383, 440's, but not others like Hemi's & (I think 340+6).  The 440+6 is my buddy's and he said he didn't want the fuel pump painted.  I paint them on my 383's and 440+6, but I might start keeping them unpainted.  I like that detailed look too.  But, yes I do not make mine all oem correct.  Just like the paint on the outside of my cars, it's better detail and quality then original.

This T/A is just a fun driver one that I'm doing.  It was repainted in the 80's but since it's rust free and completely solid (doesn't look very bad), I'm just rebuilding all the running gear to make it a fun dependable driving car that I don't have to worry about dents or rock chips.  It will get a rebuilt engine, rebuilt trans, rebuilt rear end plus all new wiring and rubber suspension.
