Does anyone know if  know if Edelbrock rpm air gap intake for small blocks will fit under the hood of my 70 cuda with stock air cleaner an hood padding?  I know this intake moves the carb something like a inch forward to equal out the runners .  If you have one on your car please post something , any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks

i have a 74 Challenger with the standard hood.   I do not know what the hood clearance for it is in comparison to a Cuda.

In it i have a SB 360 with the Edlebrock RPM Air Gap intake with Edlebrock 1406 carb on top and Mopar performance air cleaner.   There is NO carb spacer...  At first it did not fit...   So to make it fit by basically altering the air cleaner base into a "Drop Bowl" and used a 1/2 shorter air cleaner.

It was still a tight fit, and i doubt that under hood padding would have worked.   But, it would close.   Then to get more clearance so that i could put in the under hood padding i made a modification that i doubt if others would have approvedeed, but, i  decided to try it.

The engine sits on the K frame so i decided to put some spacers between the K frame and the main frame rails where the four bolts are.    I cut big enough holes in some 1/3 inch thick metal plates and installed them, rear first then the fronts.   This effectively raised the car relative to the engine.

This small modification gave enough clearance to install the under hood padding.    Before doing so, i test drove it and noticed no differences in handling and i have not noticed any problems with tire wear as i was worried that it might throw the front end alignment off.

I put the RPM air gap on my car (71/340 cuda) and the air cleaner I had did not fit. Don't remember what it was but it was not a stock one. Went with a K&N drop base filter and that worked. No pad on the hood.

I recently added a knockoff of the Eddie air-gap in my 360 'Cuda. Had to use a 1 1/8"drop down aftermarket air cleaner with a 1/2" base adaptor creating a net drop down of  5/8". Clearance is fine with 3" filter, but I have open vents in my hood so no insulator fitted. Tried original factory air cleaner but was never gonna work.
Cheers....
