Just curious on the Dr. Diff U-bolt torque spec.

The FSM says 45 ft lbs. That seems a lot...more than the axle retainer bolts (35 ft lbs).

The u-bolt studs are .3".

Should I just assume 35 ft lbs?

7290 u bolt strap torque is 13 to 18 ft lbs per Denny Driveshaft website. Do not over torque causing distortion of the cups.

I'll put it at a nice 15 lbs then. That sounds much more accurate!

Can't torque it anyway. I just took a long-ish wrench and gave it a good "tighten". Probably around 15lbs, maybe even a little bit more.

Yup: I blue loctite them and crank them with a wrench to what feels right.

Didn't use locktite. I felt that the lock washers would provide pretty good resistance to loosening. Not a bad idea though.

It's one of those things that could go "either way". Kinda like using a thread sealing on a differential fill plug. Some do it. Some don't. Most get the exact same result.

Preference takes over.

Typically "u-bolts" refer to the 1/2"-20 "u-shaped" bolts that tie the leaf spring to the axle housing [x4].

The u-joint strap you are referring to is pretty low torque. I'd prefer loctite but go ahead and snug them up again after a few heat cycles if you aren't using it.
