Pulled my shaker off to do some clean up. Apparently the fuel line had been leaking. Manifold is powder coated silver gray in color. All the yellow areas is where fuel was. Bottom of shaker has insulation that I had installed to keep heat off bottom of shaker in an attempt to keep it from holding heat and contributing to fuel boiling out. The white area is where the fire scorch it.  I never had a clue anything was going on. I assume when it caught fire, the fan blew it out when I started the car. Now I'm wondering where the spark came from to ignite it.

Yo are very lucky ! Fire with shakers can be common & difficult to put out .

Coulda been worse for sure... It's the vapor of evaporating fuel that ignites so the spark could come from anywhere under the hood. We used to run the engine in the dark to track down problems. I've seen arching plug wires, coil, plug to manifold and alternator brushes going bad.

Glad you caught it before it got out of control.  I have been using avgas during periods of infrequent use and noticed a greenish staining on my carbs recently.  Floats were out of adjustment.  The shaker hides a lot!

You are lucky. My fire started when I turned  the key off after ranking it over for 5-10 seconds, I`m not sure exactly where the spark came from but maybe from alternator?
