Just want to hold the engine up while changing the k member.
Just made up a wooden support to use a small come along. It sits on the frame.
Think it will be ok?....or not?

I think I'd have a couple jackstands and some 2x4's under the oil pan as a backup. Couldn't hurt?  :alan2cents:

:iagree: A plus for innovation but be careful

I think that's how the Duke boys did it on the General Lee! Looks strong. I wouldn't lay under it LOL

I actually thought this was supposed to be funny but I guess not.  I wouldn't, but good luck.  Have your phone handy while you're under there.

You can buy a cheery picker from Harbor Freight for a little over a $100.  Much safer IMHO for not much money.  And it's always handy to have around for the future.  :alan2cents:

About as redneck as it comes. However it works well. I utilized the same theme with 3/4 all thread and 4x4s. Worked well and was very solid to use. Mine was to remove oil pan.
My2c for yours is to utilize a second chain as a safety strap to prevent a full drop if come along fails.

Well it not as heavy as a HEMI so I think your ok but be aware... SAFETY only gives you one chance

I'm trying to keep the weight on the frame though. The car is on a two post lift. If I remove the weight of the engine........

So I think I'll use a thumpers suggestion of a safety chain and also add in Brad's jackstand idea. And no, I will definitely not spend time underneath a suspended load.

Thanks all.  :drinkingbud:

Mr Lee

The 4x4 should hold the weight. Just check it good for knots which may be a weak spot.
Two things i would mention

1. The right side doesn't look like its has a lot of contact with the frame
2. I'd install some gussets/brackets to keep it square.  (Going on a 45 deg angle from the vertical post to the horizontal)

If that kicks foreword or back, is game over!  :alan2cents:

Cut your 4x4 so it rests on the bolt flanges where the fenders bolt to the body....  Same area professionals use every day to support engines & transmissions...

dodj

I might be able to do that inboard of the fenders. My fenders are glass - probably break'em.

With the suggestions I think I will redesign it a bit.

I like the Cherry Picker idea.  I just looked on Craigslist and there was one practically new the guy used a couple of times for $40.00.  Cheap insurance.  Good luck.
