Well, the  time has come to piece together the freshly rebuilt and repainted 440. Keep in mind that I bought this car as a project. Even though the old guy was extremely methodical in organizing parts, there were some shoeboxed items, and as luck would have it that's what the carb linkage was in. The car has it's original carter 4 barrel which was on the engine during dyno and ran well after the shop rebuilt it. Of course the dyno used its own linkage. I'm finding the diagram in the 70 manual isn't exact and/or isn't clear enough. If anyone has photos of a stock unit, it'd be helpful. The main question revolves around the throttle return spring bracket and if it truly bolts to left front intake bolt (with the negative battery cable, star lock washer, etc. I'd just love to see a photo if I can.

In my opinion, your assumptions are correct, it goes just as you're holding it...

@anlauto  Thanks Alan, but that's where the confusion comes in. The leg of the bracket that points down in my photo, seems like it will hit the cylinder head instead of clearing the front of it. And is that a vacuum line going through the large hole? Trying to go off of memory, but it's been 35 years since my two other 70 440 cars and I'm scratching my head.

@VCODE and @anlauto I had wondered that because it fits, yet I thought I was going nuts because that's a threaded hole. This solves the mystery fully and thank you both. Then there's the final question, will removing and then doing a re-torque on that bolt jeopardize my intake gasket?
