Alright, I thought this was going to be an after work project, but I think I'll begin this over the weekend. I got all the tools I need laid out. The car is jacked up. I can tell that this is going to be a 3/4" wrench only job just about entirely. Not a lot of room for sockets.

It's going to require a lot of mental effort because there's some tight spaces that require two hands. Likely will be unable to professionally torque bolts, but will have to rely on serious wrench force with limited spacing instead since those bolts are about 50 ft lbs and above.

Having an extra shop hand would be helpful for this job, I can already tell. Going in solo slows this job down.

I also learned that the motor mount MUST be removed with the bracket as an assembly. Then you bolt your new mount to the bracket, and install it as a complete assembly.

I estimate 3-4 hours for a good repair on this, including cleaning of bracket once it's out. It's going to take sufficient physical and mental effort. Not something you can do coming home from work feeling a bit beat.

Those that have done it before, am I wrong?

Some pics. The mounts are worn.

These two best friends with a half bottle of vodka allowed me to almost remove all top bolts in 15 mins.

The bottom two bots are easy.

Start with top first. Disconnect carb linkage for good measure. Then hit the bottom last.

Interestingly, you'll be spending much more time over the hood rather than under, so don't jack it up too high.

Any tips for a quick installation?

My thought is to get front end on jack stands. Then remove bolts completely. Lift engine up with floor jack an inch or two. Slip new Mags in and call it done. Am I missing anything? 30 min job?
I did one side at a time. Used a bottle jack an a small piece of wood on the oil pan bolts. Removed bolts on one side and tilted up the engine a bit.

Hi there, i have a similar question. Im trying to install a 440 on my 74 challenger that came with a 318. I got this new brackets and mounts to do the conversion but the engine touches everything. It hits the kframe, the bars and even the transmission wont align to the tunnel. What could be the cause of my problems? Do i need different mounts?

What do you mean by new mounts / brackets to do a conversion? All you should need to install a big block in a E-body is big block motor mounts. No conversion needed. Thats the nice thing about E-bodies one K-frame , many motor options. Are you using factory style brackets. Here's a couple of pictures of a drivers side big block bracket / mount.Hope this helps

As @RJChallenger mentioned, make sure you have big block motor mounts.  Tell us how you swapped the mounts and list the part number if you can to help us.  The 440 should clear everything and the trans should be in place.

Very typical to find 2 piece mounts , they are a poor design , should have been trough bolts like later years , they are all 45 years old now & it really doen't take a lot of power to separate them which is why I always build a strap from the block tot he cross pin so the engine cannot go far if the mount fails & the mount is far less likely to fail if it is not allowed to stretch to its limit all the time !

Welcome Ludemurillo , pictures would help , you must have some wrong or missing part if the engine is not sitting correctly

Ludemurillo

Thank you for replying.  I can't seem to find the part number for the actual mounts, but the brackets' are 2536132 and 2863751 from 440source.

Here's  some pictures.

What size are your motor mount bolts? they look a little small and would effect where the mount should sit.

Do you have the correct oil pan ?

Ludemurillo

Im not sure on the bolts. The brakets didn't come with them so i had to find some. The oil pan is not even on. I'll figure out the pan once the block sits correctly
