I'm restoring my 71 road runner and will be installing the K frame and running gear from the bottom up, first time for me. Looking for opinion if I should mount carb before or after installation? don't know if I will need the extra clearance.

What are you using to lower the car over the motor ? In my opinion, your cart looks pretty high if you're not using a hoist, you may have to raise the back end of the car off the ground as well.

The cart I use is lower to the ground. I lift the cars with and engine hoist and the rear tires on the ground....My engines are 100% complete before going under :alan2cents:

I'll be using an engine hoist to lift the front. The cart is borrowed from a friend and I already shortened it 10 inches. The K member is 10 inches off the ground. What lift points do your use?

Carb is delicate, I leave them off.

I just hook into two holes in the frame ahead of the K frame bolt holes....done close to 40 cars the same way now.

Thanks for the replies. Alan my  B  body is in the shop for body work and paint so I went to my cuda to check for the holes you mentioned and yup they are there and appear to have been used to tie the car down. I hope my b body has the same holes.

@anlauto  Interesting... so no lifting "bars" needed; just chains?  Nothing interferes up front?

I've always done it differently , if you place jack stands under te front leaf sprin mounts you can lever te rear of te car & raise te front easily & keep it raised usin 1 jack stand allowin a lot more room to roll te enine under te car
You know 2 letters don't function on my keyboard !!

I don't use chains :o  I have some heavy duty straps good for 1000 lbs
Nothing interferes :alan2cents:

Alan do your straps clear the battery tray?

Yes, I typically have the battery already installed as well. I try to assembly the engine 100% as well as the engine compartment. After I get the K frame bolted up...The only assembly time spent under the hood is, the rad and hook up the two hoses, the two heater hose, battery cables, throttle cable, and plug in the engine harness. Less time leaning over the fenders, the better...I say  :drinkingbud:

Here's the straps I use, it's like an adjustable locking strap with rubber coated hooks...

340sport hope this pic works, I get a little disoriented when looking at photos from under a car.

Mrbill426

Is that distortion from lifting for engine install, or is it possibly from tie-downs while hauling or towing hooks?  Just curious.

The hooks I use never damage the hole like that. :alan2cents:
