I am currently drag racing my 1970 small block Challenger. It has a braced 8 3/4 rear with a spool. I am contemplating going with a Ford 9 inch or staying with what I have. Looking for some input. I am running low 10's in the quarter with 1.40 60 ft times.

the Furd 9 will slow you down , they have horrible rolling resistance / drag .
If what you have is working why change ???
Dana would be the only option in my experience .

We used to have a way of determining what diff a race car had without looking under the car , if 1 guy was pushing the car easily it was 8 3/4 or Dana , IF 5 guys were pushing a car & working up a sweat going downhill you knew it had a Furd in it , True Story !!

I am a Dana 60 fan as well. I would run the 8 3/4 until it breaks and at that point install a Dana 60. The Dana 60 doesn't require all the aftermarket parts a 9 inch does, the downside is changing the gears takes time with a Dana 60. With the cost of aftermarket 9 inches though I can't imagine how you could have more than one center section $$$$

If you are considering a rear end change, I would do it "off season" and not wait until you have a failure.  Once that 8 3/4 breaks, it will take out other parts...probably in the trans.  I personally wouldn't be happy having to pull apart the trans to make sure there wasn't a sprag failure after the rear end exploded. :alan2cents:  With the times you're running, the 8 3/4 is on borrowed time.

I ran a Stalwart Ford 9 inch rear, aluminum center section, Moser 35 spline axles with Strange 430 gears and ran upper 9's and never had an issue.
