Where is everyone getting their torque converters from these days?

All I am finding are high $$$$ high stall full race units for the most part.

I just want a stock replacement for big block 727.   New preferred, but a
quality reman can work.

Where are they hiding them?     :dunno:

It may sound obvious but contact your local transmission repair shop...

Stock Torque converter should not be an issue. I agree, any transmission shop should be able to sell you one. Most auto parts stores and if none of that suits your fancy Rock Auto.

I checked the usual suspects (autozone, advance, o'really) and they didn't have a lot to choose from.  AZ listed the one I need at an acceptable price, but won't let you buy it...  you try to add to cart it says not available.

That rock auto is pretty frightening...   337 + 250 core charge then tax and shipping.   Some things the rock is good for but that doesn't seem like one of them.

I think the trans shop advice is probably the best way to go these days unless you are buying a race converter.

With that in mind I contacted a gear and driveline shop here in town.   I've used them before for trans parts so torque converter should be right up their alley and it was.    I have one coming due to arrive Monday or Tuesday and the price is good.   Reman but that is all I need right now.

With the convenience of online shopping we are a bit conditioned into thinking buying local is going to be brutally expensive but that is not always the case.
