I decided to replace my manual box for power steering. (Easier said than done). I didn't want to give up my headers for stock manifolds so I had to do a little metal work to make the new box fit.

Now that I crushed the tubes I felt like crap knowing I took a vintage set of headers and beat the tubes in. By the time I was done making them fit I couldn't believe how much I restricted the flow. Now what do I do? I decided to take some PlayDoh and formed it in the dents to replicate the original round tube. Then I took the PD and formed it to the back of each tube. This way I transferred the volumn I lost in the front of the tube and gain it back when I'm done making the blow out patches.

Now I have to make a patch for each tube.

I cut out each tube to fit the patch and with a little welding...

I don't feel so bad now!

Nicely done man!   :clapping:  You picked back up some of the flow.  But did you see that video where they tested the smashed in headers on the dyno?  Someone posted on here and I'll see if I can find it...

In this video they didn't smash them as much as it looks like you did, so you're probably right to add some flow on the other side like you did.  But this video should help you feel good that a little dent or two will not matter much...

I got back all the crushed volumn and then some. I made sure of that.

Ugh: I have about 10 hours into these stupid Hookers. Hooker's jig never was any good for the flanges and tubes are all over the place and you can't seal them as delivered.

That'a a very good video. Well thought out and interesting. But I wonder what the dyno results would be if they used say for example a 600hp 7.0 liter that all it wants to do in life is breath? Crushing the pipes would be like having asthma.

I was wondering if there is a good off the shelf header available. I was trying to figure out why my car is so scary to drive and found my steering binding on my headers. Any information is appreciated.

 :iagree:
As far as I'm concerned they are the only header for Mopars. Top notch in every aspect! Here are TTI's on a 383. It dies have manual steering so the box is shorter but as you can see there's some pretty good room for longer box.
