Best rear end????

My car has a 410 rear end and there's a 350 that came with it when I bought it but before I start changing things up like to know everybody's input on what the best rear end this for just all around driving and burnouts

Interested to hear what everyone thinks. I usually hear about final ratio and RPMs at 70MPH, but recently have heard about stress on the gear given different ratios and power levels...

There really isn't one , for wheels up 1/4 mile blasts I like 4.30 , for 200 MPH + I use 2.76 +OD .
If your car is an automatic stall converter has a lot to do with it also as you want the conver locked on the highway so the RPM has to be higher then the stall speed ta the speed you travel on the highway otherwise you are just making a ton of heat & killing the trans .
It really depends where & how you use your car the most .

Of course the Best diff is the Dana 60 !

First decide if you like to mostly cruise the hwy or the stop light grand prix.

Hwy cruising   =   3.23 or 2.76

Good street launch = 3.73 or 3.91

We need to know your engine ( camshaft specs) and transmission combo. If you have or are planning a OD transmission down the road that will change things also ( in addition to what was mentioned above) Hang onto those 4.10 if an OD is in your future.  :alan2cents:

Why not the best of both worlds?

Use a 4.30 rear end gear with a gear vendors!!!

As mentioned above, really depends on what you want. Also, depends on what you have or are willing to change. Lower numbers (example 2.94) are better for running at higher speeds and High numbers (example 4.10) would be better for quarter mile and quick launches. Not sure what will be best for me but I have a 3.23 and may go to 3.55. I want something that can drive comfortably on the freeway. I would REALLY like something decent for the track but that would be very occasional. The 3.55 would probably be better. Also as mentioned gear vendor can help out. Now I just gotta save a bit more :)

The other alternative is more gears in the transmission, which allows you to have both quick, off the line acelleration and extended, low rpm cruising.

If you want highway cruising and drag strip launches, learn how to swap rear gears fast if keeping the 3 speed auto or 4 speed manual. If I have overdrive auto trans even a 4 speed, I will get at least 3.73 rear with lockup converter for highway cruising. I think several members are doing that.

It depends on a number of things.. The torque curve of your engine, the first gear and final gear ratio in your transmission and the diameter of your tires all come in to play. I went with 3.55's in my Cuda. I have >500 lbs of torque and a Tremec TKO. First gear in the Tremec is 3.27, combined with my 3.55's that is a 11.61 starting line ratio. 75MPH on the highway is 2300 RPM. If I were doing it today I'd use one of the newer TKX transmissions with a close ratio and 3.73's...
