Close up pictures

I can't seem to do close up pics with my cell phone (I guess I should buy a better one). But anyway, what is the best way to take a detailed close up pic?

Some phone have what is called a Macro setting.  Look in the settings to see if you see anything like that.  If you have that on the camera will take better close up photos.  Just a thought.

zoom/macro - the icon usually looks like a flower. these are generally for closer than 18"
