Can someone tell me/show me what the seal looks like here where the gooseneck enters the fuel tank?

That helps a ton. Previous owner gave me a boat load of new parts. Now I know what to look for. Thanks!

When i installed mine on a new tank, it leaked when i filled the tank.

I then drained tank and did it over this time putting plenty of black RTV on each grove of the seal, and then after inserting the filler tube, put plenty of Black RTV around the tube against the seal..   Then i let it sit for 24 hours before putting in gas and it held.

I don't know if this was just my problem or a common issue or whether there is a special sealant to use with it.

You shouldn't have to use any type of sealer with it. :alan2cents: Maybe a little lubricant would help installation  :bigthumb:

The thicker portion of the seal goes inside the tank.  I trashed the grommet during my first attempt to get the pipe through it, even with Vaseline on everything.  On the 2nd attempt, warmed up the grommet in hot water (soaked about 10 min) before putting it in the tank to soften it a bit and still used Vaseline. Things went much better on the 2nd try.

"Shouldn't"  :iagree:  RTV silicone should never be used with gasoline. Turns to jelly....

Vaseline the seal prior to tube insertion.  (that's a no brainer)   Right?

As you tighten the tank up higher, take a break and slowly lower fill tube in.

2 or 3 times should be fine.
