This was sent to me by a friend who knows how I am about dogs.... She's the same way.... As I know some of y'all are too...

From time to time people tell me, "Lighten up, it's just a dog," or "That's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance traveled, time spent, or costs involved for "Just a dog." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "Just a dog." Many hours have passed with my only company being "Just a dog," and not once have I felt slighted. Some of my saddest moments were brought about by "Just a dog." In those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "Just a dog" provided comfort and purpose to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "Just a dog," you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person. Because of "Just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

For me and folks like me, it's not "Just a dog." It's an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a dog"brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday people can understand it's not "Just the dog." It's the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "Just a man" or "Just a woman."
There is no doubt a dog can change your life , I know when I was younger you could say I was a little self absorbed then I found a stray took him in and it changed my life . For the first time I realized something depended on me and I had to be there. First step for me in loving something other than focusing on my own wants.Make a long story short in that time I have gone from living hand to mouth to owning a successful business and being able to care for a much larger circle of people. So in a  nutshell along with my wife of course I credit that dog as a turning point in my life. It was years ago but it was one of the worst days of my life (and months after) when I had to put him down I still remember the date and time. Since then I have always had dogs in my life and their care is a big priority for me.

I keep posting funny dog memes as everytime I see this post come up my heart sank a little as I thought oh no someone else has lost their beloved dog. So to try and lighten it up some and mix happy in with sad..... hope that's ok with y'all? Toughest part of a dog owners life is losing them, personally I find it so easy to dwell in the saddest days and struggle to remember the happier times and the joy they bring into our lives. I lost Wilson last September and not a day goes by where I don't miss him. It does get easier as time goes on......

Personally I love the memes, and I agree losing your dog can be one of the toughest things to go through....
