Hi Bigs,
I work at the University Hospital in Madison on the Neuro Surgery team.  We do surgery for this a couple times per month.  I know the procedure intimately.  Most usually it is caused by a blood vessel (artery) the is too close to the trigeminal nerve that comes off of your brain stem.  Each time your heart beats, the artery puts pressure on the nerve and it damages the lining of the nerve causing pain.  What the surgeon does is separates the the artery and nerve with a special piece of medical implant so that the nerve is protected from the artery.  It takes about 4 hours.  Relief is nearly immediate post operation.  My surgeon, who I absolutely love and would let operate on my own family, has excellent results.  I also have a contact in Milwaukee at the Medical College (Froedert) if that is more convenient.  Feel free to contact me if you want details and a referral name.  I am willing to help if I can.

@jordan Thanks appreciate that ! I waiting to see what the CT brings. Hoping I don't get any flare ups in the meantime. I always seem to get all the off the wall stuff

That is one of the conditions that my son had who passed in Dec.   Of course he had several other problems, but that one hurt. You take care.

Hey @BIGSHCLUNK I just wondered how you're doing. Do you have an update for us?

Thanks for asking. Had my CT scan which was a circus in itself. Couldn't get in, didn't know the correct Butt to kiss, back an forth phone calls and other bullshit. meanwhile texting my Doc so he's kept in the loop. SIDEBAR - I've know my doc about 30years, so its first name basis and I do have his cell number. I don't abuse that privilege. The network he is in has a big website so you can contact your doc via email...... providing staff forwards it on  :crying: Not really sure of the setup but on one really BAD day I emailed him around 8PM. I did not expect to hear from him till the next morning (fine). I'm in so much pain the next day I can't think. I wait till about 11:30 (am) and call the office to inquire about the non-reply. As I'm talking to Shirley (maybe Jane or Carrie or ????) she tells me the email was forwarded at 11:40. This tells me she did it while I was on the phone w her.  :verymad:  :verymad:  :verymad: Anyway after that he contacted me in about an hour... He says hmmm odd those guys (ENT Docs are usually pretty quick to get into. He then says maybe try doc so an so. That rang a bell w me.... my mom's doc that found her cancer! Got in the very next day. That being said - everything looks good. Next step neurologist............. May 20th  :Thud: Kept my doc in the loop on that also, he was not happy bout that, suggested even trying out of network. Which I did but got nowhere. So hurry up and wait....

That being said the teeth on that side of my face have not felt right since this started. Lucky for me the current pain level has been a daily 2/3. I can most days handle that with an occasional spike to 5/6. Nowhere close to the main flare ups. So time goes on and I get a major gouty arthritis flare up in both feet about 2 weeks ago. Feet still hurt, so things have just been good times. My nephew did get me a pen. It does help take the edge off. But its gotta be a late nite thing.... Never get thru my day at the shop otherwise. Also having new back pain (L5 gone years ago) but this is more middle back not lower. And my sciatica been acting up The fun never stops pain wise. The other issue with this (in my case anyway) ears constantly ring and ring loud.... and daily. Never had that issue either till the neuralgia started.

But I keep moving , still doing 45/50 hrs at the shop, training dogs, taking care of my dad (95) and helped the wife paint the dinning room today.

Geeez Chris, I can't imagine enduring one of your conditions let alone everything you're dealing with. I hope things turn around for you soon.

Okay, not to highjack your "35 YEARS" thread, I'll ask here. Now that that tooth is out is the pain gone?

I was wondering the same thing!

BIGSHCLUNK

I'm a little "sore" once in awhile, but no major out breaks..... yet! I hope it stays that way. Time will tell the tale... I don't wish that pain on anybody. And thanks for the inquiry  :grouphug:
