Nevada classic car clamp down?

Pretty sure our 2013 Subaru BRZ contributes a lot more to air pollution than the 440 Challenger...

Wonder what a smog test for a classic musclecar would be? Like did they have 'as built' factory emission numbers back then?  :dunno:

 :dunno: I don't see the issue.  How many classics are driven more than 5k miles a year?  Not many.  Here in Iowa, if you are registered as a classic, you can only drive to and from shows/parades and for "testing".  If you have classic car insurance they already require you to have another "every day" vehicle and don't let you drive a classic to the store/work.  The only reason I have the Challenger registered as a classic is so I can run "year of manufacture" plates.  I get no break on registration fees...there is no other benefit to the "classic" designation.  If you don't like the restrictions...don't register your vehicle as a classic and carry regular insurance.

I don`t have a problem with mileage restriction for antique plates but the two issues I see are the 40 year requirement and the smog check - what standard will be required for emmisions?

Naturally... just moved here last year. The crazy is seeping across the border from California. Have one vehicle registered as an "old timer" and the other a "classic rod". The legislation itself is a poo pile. We'll see how this goes... hope the cult of warm (D)'s all get punted to the curb in a few months. This co2 scam they have been perpetuating for decades at a cost of untold trillion$ needs to end. Rampant crime, drug deaths, massive inflation, supply chain issues, open borders... all issues created by looney progressive policies pushed by liberal Democrats. Glad to see they are focusing on the REAL important issues... classic cars.

Smog checks for classic cars that represent likely less than a percentile of a percentile of all cars on the road. Yup... that will save the planet for sure. Also.. bridges 4 sale.. cheap!

The loons running the place will likely use EV standards for cars too old to have a spec.. What they want is all old cars in a crusher & to push everyone off gas and onto the unreliable grid driving cars they can turn on and off remotely. These people hate you having freedom from big gubberment and will do anything to get you reliant on their wares. Gas is just too good an energy source and very portable.. which is why they hate it. Has nothing to do with the co2 boogeyman and everything to do with control.

There is no way anyone can expect an old car to meet current standards.  It's a very poorly written article designed to upset people.

Emissions exemption for claasic car registrition provided you provide insurance and mileage statements. I guess you just disconnect your odometer to keep it under 5,000 miles per year.

The bigger issue I see is it will keep getting worse as far as restrictions go for older vehicles untill they are virtually outlawed, Red Barchetta coing true?

This is exactly what they want. Old vehicles make us independent. No remote kill switch, no tracking metrics for analytics and ads (other than your phone). As far as I know all new cars have some sort of technology that phones home to a server somewhere and exchanges data. I can log into a toyota website and it will tell me the exact mileage on my car now. Using your car for business? Now IRS Agent No 83,052 wants to make sure you actually drove those miles you claimed on your tax return.

currently here in NV (& I'm pretty sure it's just the counties w/Las Vegas & Reno), if you don't have 25+ year old classic car/rod plates - everything back to 1968 model year need a smog check (year appropriate, not current standards)
& if you do have classic plates -  you fill out a legal document/affidavit of your actual yearly mile use < 5,000

I don't think "our" musclecars are the target of the new legislation (just a bonus byproduct  :pullinghair:) - it's the 25+ year old "beater" daily driver & landscaping trucks that are running classic car plates to avoid smog testing
but you can't make a law discriminating against those vehicles/owners (lower income) ************** and yes the solution is **** give them a new electric vehicle  :stop:

I seen the abuse personally for the 10+ years I lived there. Chevy Luv pickups all beat up with the collector/classic plates just for ONE example, there are thousands. Some good laws do have a negative impact on the ones who used it for it's true design.

We have two categories of classic car plates here in Illinois. Standard antique plates which are cheap, around $40 for 5 years.  They are highly restricted for use, to and from shows, parades and to maintenance.
They started another category of plates a couple years ago called expanded antique. Those cost around $60 a year and you can use a car with them for pretty much anything spring to mid fall, then the antique restrictions over the bad weather months.
Both are for cars 25 years old or before.
I used to see cars abusing antique plates sometimes but don't anymore.
Though I know people who use antique plated cars occasionally to drive to work on a nice day. I don't consider that abuse, it's pushing their luck.
I've heard a few rare instances of people getting ticketed for antique plates for not driving the car to an event.
All in all I think it's reasonable here for those plates, at least now that they have the new expanded category.
