Old Pictures That Break Your Heart-Post’em

I keep stumbling across this heartbreaking photo from 1980. It was my JH27G1B 3 speed manual, all original. Hottest running 318 I ever owned. Maybe due to it not having to waste any vacuum. At least too hot for a 19 year old. My third Challenger. Rolled at over 100 mph. Second can barely be seen behind it. A B7 blue JH27G1B auto on the column.  :rubeyes:  :'(

I guess it was 1990 and I was driving my 340 Challenger home from high school. I approached a traffic light that was yellow about to go red, so of course what do I do but punch it and fly through the intersection. Well who was coming the other way but Mr. Policeman. Looking in the mirror I see him start to turn around and head my way, there's traffic so he kind of gets hung up for a little. Do I pull over? No, I punch it again and head up a winding road to get home. I live on a dead end street nearby and figure if I can make it there fast enough he'll go right on by on the main road. So I'm going way too fast and come to a bend in the road with a tree, I almost lose control and sideswipe it. I fight the car back and forth 2 or 3 times finally regaining control and then I duck down my street, he apparently kept on going straight and never caught up with me. That was as close as I ever came to wrecking the car. So no pics from me but here's one I found on the internet a while ago.

I've posted it before but at 18 and with my first job, with just under $1800 saved and my parents co-signing for the rest, I drove this brand new JH23H1B Challenger 340 automatic off the lot.
Less than a month later and with 2900 miles I lost a battle with a guardrail and took a long barrel rolled plunge down an embankment.
Luckily walked away basically unscathed.
Insurance adjuster gave me these pictures after they wrote the car off

  This was a 70 se challenger, 440 six pack 4 speed , trac pack,   I still own this car.      I gave 20 dollars for it , years ago

Wow. Apparently I'm not alone. I hope this thread continues. By the way, I too got a jump on the cops once and dangerously outran them before they could get a plate. Lights off at night and flying. Finally whipping off an alley and into a strangers open and detached garage. Craziness.

I didn't wreck this one, however I did bury the remains of it after pulling the 18 spline and Dana 60 out of it. It also hit a pole on the right side but would have been very fixable today.

I never get tired of seeing those pictures Terry, and I'm glad you're still with us today.....notice for a 1971 model, it doesn't have the typical "notch" in the fenders some people say all 71's had... :rubeyes:

Apparently, Challengers had trouble staying on the road back in the day... :pokeeye:

Speaking for myself, 1 in 7 had an issue. However, a throttle cable allowing a wide open and a panic ignition shut off that locked the wheel sort of complicated the issue.

Those notches would have been phased in during 1971 to accomodate the future sad mouth grille...
This survivor 71 has them, with a SPD of March 12...
