Personally I would stick with rims and tires that were available on E Bodies originally. 15 X 7 Rally wheels preferably. Polyglas tires are a must. :bigthumb:

Those chrome magnums just look out of place on an E Body in my opinion... :alan2cents: :thumbdown:  My first impression would be " too bad it has the wrong rims on it" :dunno:

If anything, I would prefer the YearOne 17" rallies or magnums over 15" chrome magnums.... at least if you're modifying the car by changing the wheels from stock, with 17" wheels people will get the idea of what you're doing and can't say it's "wrong"....

Of course nothing is WRONG when it's your car, so the best advice is buy the wheels that make YOU happy and then proceed to drive the wheels off of it  :stayinlane:

More than anything, it's the Polyglas tire look I'm shooting for. The 14" road wheels on the car would also look good. I got time to mull it over. The white walls need to go though.

Your car of course. It stands out and looks original with whats on it though. Otherwise it is just another convt. with bigger tires and wheels swapped on. Kind of like the red Camaro thing.

Yeah, point taken. The whole reason I wouldn't start adding performance upgrades is the stock appearance really stands out of the crowd. I've had rallyes before and I'm kind of tired of them though I admit they do look great. I like the look of the 14" painted road wheels too and the set it has on the car are very nice. The only reason I was thinking the chrome wheels is 15 x 7s allow me to put a 60 series tire on it but maybe a non performance car like this would be better suited with a narrower 70 series tires which is what I'd be limited to with the stocker 14" road wheel. I could just add the 14" Polyglas tires to the current rims and call it a day.

A few non car people that have seen the car have said the whitewall tires really make it look like an old mans car. I grew up in the 70s and 80s when white letter tires were everywhere so I've also had the hang up in my mind that white wall tires are for old man cars.

The more I think on it, the more I'm leaning to Polyglas tires on the 14" road wheel. What size would look right for the car? F70 14? I think that size is around 26.5" tall.

However, I think painted steel wheels do not belong on a Mopar either... :Stirring: Like white walls, they are for plain Jane mid to late '70's cars. They make a car look boring. I'd say old man style....but I'm kinda entering that age group myself...55yrs old. (not in my head though)

Polyglas with road wheels will look awesome. Looking good, kind of subtle.

I'd go for it too if distance wasn't such an issue. Funny thing is I've seen several sets of these tires in 14" in the past year on Facebook Marketplace. Today, I can't find a thing.

Considering what I've spent for the car and transportation cross country, a new set of tires is nothing! I'll hit up my local tire guy and see if he can offer me a fair price.

So f70-14 or e70-14?  I'm not sure what the stock height was but I'm guessing it was closer to an F.

FWIW I never cared for the chrome road wheels on a 70 E body, they don't have the right look, Chrysler went to the brushed trim ring in 69 & kept it for years...  I too have run 15" Rally wheels to the point of being bored with them so when I built my current (For the past 20 years :rofl:) Challenger I did something different, I had Wheel Vintiques build me a set of road wheels with a bare 15x7 hoop & I run brushed trim rings... Kinda what Chrysler coulda/shoulda had on these cars when new....

F70-14 Goodyear POLYGLAS (RWL or "white stripe") is the correct available 14" tire for a '71 Barracuda

Thanks for confirming size. I think the square shoulders and thinner white stripes of the ones you posted a pic of look good. I'd probably leave them alone if I had a set of those.

Truer words have never been spoken, in the end do what YOU want to do and makes you happy, because it's your car.  That's the beauty of it.  I disagreed with everything else Alan said, but that's part of what makes life grand, people can disagree and it's no big deal.

I think rather than making blanket statements like "these rims don't look good on a whole fleet of cars", the true question is do they look good on a PARTICULAR car.

For example, the chrome Magnum 500s on my Challenger look GREAT, because in large part of the paint scheme.  I have the gun metal gray that has a LOT of black accenting on the car (the vinyl roof, the longitudinal striping, the TA spoiler I put on, the grill, the tail light panet, and the interior.  Consequently, the black paint in the center of the Magnum 500's just matchup with all of that.  Secondly, the chrome matches very well with the chrome front and rear bumpers, not to mention that I have the chrome wheel well pieces, the chrome piece that runs across the bottom of the windshield, and the chrome pieces that run along the bottom of the car from the front tires to the rear, chrome window trim, chrome turn signals on the hood, chrome "Dodge" and "Challenger" lettering, etc.

So while those Magnum 500's might not look good on CERTAIN Cudas/Challengers, they may look great on others, including mine (and judging from the number of stares, and attention I get when driving it, at car shows, in parades, etc. I have a lot of people that agree with me, lol)

So, the question is, how will they look on your car, and if you like them, do it! :cheers:

Agreed, count me as another person who disagreed with just about everything in that quote too, and that's A-OK! But not sure why one would consider Magnums "wrong wheels"--that's actually a historically incorrect statement. You could ORDER Magnums with your Challenger/Cuda back in the day. In-fact, most brochures/ads show Challengers with Magnums....to an amount that actually amazes me.

Magnums ARE a Dodge Challenger wheel, just like Ralleyes are as well! Just like dog dishes are too! It's OK to prefer one over the other, but I wouldn't be saying "wrong wheels" if that particular style was actually available from the factory. "Not original wheels" is a different conversation entirely.

IMO, 15" nearly any style is better than 14".

IMO, the 17" Ralleyes look "wrong". The 14/15" Ralleyes give the perception of a near perfect circle due to the reflection of the chrome ring. The 17" ralleyes give the perception of an elongated crescent shape. It's enough that it bugs the crap out of me. Personally, I think these cars look better w/ 15" wheels and some meats, rather than a 17" wheel and thin fillet steak.

For the record, I love Ralleyes, magnums, and dog dishes! I always enjoy looking at any of them.
