Very few cars to get excited about in the mid '80's
Ya gotta look outside North America in '86...pricey though Ferrari 328, Aston Martin Vantage.....

The mid 70's until the 00's were bleak years with just a few exceptions. I didn't buy a new car between 75 and 02, that's why I bought new trucks in those years.

Gawd '59 was a Cool year for lot's of reasons..... maybe not so much cars LOL

'59 was the Epitome of the winged cars for all models. I can't help but think of Elvis Presley's '59 Cadillac.

I love the 59's.

I really liked the GM G-Body's from 78-87 ,Malibu's , Monte SS Aerocoupe, GN Buicks, Pontiac 2+2 , Cutlass 442 I had a few of them , good solid cars , put many many trouble free miles on mine. Drove them for over 25 years combined. Rear ends were junk I always swapped in a 9" Ford

This is one Bad Ass 1960 Pro Street Thunderbird. Nothing like it. Belongs to my dad. Project sat for 10 years. Started, moved around from building to building. Sits in front of his house. Just never completed. 95% finished. 50K invested. VIDEO: http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=Wo_Brnrw tU THE GOODS: Original California car. San Fernando Valley. No rust to speak of. Check out the pics. Nice n dry. 428 Cobra Jet engine- mild cam and less than 100 miles on it. Runs strong. Built by Chris Lafrene of Courtesy Chevrolet. C6 transmission with shift kit and B&M console shifter for solid shifts by Craig Calkins master transmission mechanic. Shifts nice and quick like it should. High performance torque converter. Pro Street Chassis was done by the former crew chief of the Budweiser land speed record rocket car, Kirk Swanson of Camarillo. 9'' ford Detroit locker posi with housing all welding up to handle 1000 horsepower Super strong 4 bar rear suspension with Alden coil over shocks Big ol' Tubs to handle the 18'' wide Pro Street tires Rebuilt Power brake unit with rebuilt 70's ford Torino dual master cylinder and front disk brakes. All built to handle existing engine with a 871 blower- Did not choose to run blower for this street edition. Big Fat Mickey Thompson 18'' wide Pro Street Tires that fill the well like an artists rendition. For safety- complete roll bar constructed with seamless, thick wall tubing and welded through body to frame extending into trunk area to surround the custom fuel cell. Front and rear bumpers acid striped and painted to match body. Black front, charcoal back. Mean look. I'm talkin' MEAN! I've never seen a T-bird done this way. Thanks, my idea. Late model Acura Bucket seats for the look. Replaced dash pad. Cover console and all side trim with black German vinyl. Looks like factory black molding to keep with the theme. Gauges, lights and clock working and all exterior lights working Great chrome on the dash panel Great chrome on the glove box door with new glove box inside. Custom installed tilt and Telescoping column out of an Impala New windshield New mild tint side glass New felting and wind wing trim Power windows that all work New headliner and visors with chrome brackets. New Carpet New Le Carra four spoke leather wrapped steering wheel -------------------- ------------------- ------------------- NEEDS: Painted quite a while ago and has a neat 20 footer look. Needs black touched up from door dings, bubble spots and so on. I'd spot them all in and do a respray black if you want to go show. But for some kick butt good times spot 'em in and have fun without the worries. Seats have all been mounted but I'd reupholster them with the side panels.(stock now). This is an original A/C car but no compressor. If you plan on running the A/C while you're haulin' ass, you'll need to install a compressor and have it hooked up. Never made the grill. Was going to go with stainless tubing. No big bucks there. Molding needs to be made that meets the dash to windshield. Missing. Door weather striping. Just never got to it. Molding under back window is missing. Easy to find. Pops is just lazy. Tranny has a slight leak where shift arm goes into the housing. Craig quoted me 175.00 to fix it. Just trying to be up front. Ya just gotta see this thing. Turns heads everywhere it goes. I call it "The half Hour Car" because I have to plan an extra 30 minutes to bullshit with people who are attracted to it. it's worth every penny of 30K plus if another 2-3K would be invested to detail and finish up this beast. Reserve is set at 15,000. Pops wants some retirement money and just doesn't need the car. Good luck and have fun with this machine.

Really cool thread!!

I was born in 1972, and since the 1972 Dodge Challenger is more or less the same as the 1974 Challenger I currently own, I'm going to go outside of my Mopar blood and choose a car that brought me back into muscle cars.

A 1972 Chevy Chevelle SS

A good friend of mine has owned this since the late 80s (he also owns a 57 Chevy, a 1972 Chevy Nova SS Clone, and a 67 Dodge Charger 440 that is IMMACULATE, as he's a Mopar guy too), and let me drive it in our local Memorial Day parade back in 2015.  Needless to say, I knew then and there that getting back into muscle cars was going to happen.  lol  In fact, my friend knows that I love that Chevelle SS so much that he put it in his will that it goes to me if/when something were to happen to him.  He is about 20 years older than I am, but honestly as much as I like that car, I'm hoping it's quite a while until it's sitting in my garage next to my '74 Challenger.

Here's some pics of the car:
