My younger son and I have been the topic of many posts on this forum as we have been restoring a 70 Challenger for over 2 years. I however have an older son who today became the US Army's newest 2nd Lieutenant.  On Sunday Dec 19, he will walk and receive his BS in Mechanical Engineering with a GPA of 3.76 from THE Ohio State University.  TODAY however was the BIG day as he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army.  To say we are proud of him, his accomplishments and his future is an understatement.  There are no words that can describe the pride we are feeling today.  To top it of, his grandfather was a soldier (Specialist4) in the late 50's, early 60's and stood up today to give  him his first salute.  It is a tradion in the Army and apparently the Navy for the new officer to give a silver dollar the first enlisted soldier who salutes him.  Today his Opa stood on stage in the ceremony and saluted, thereby receiving a silver dollar.  In addition, the keynote speaker was the head of ALL US ROTC from the Pentagon.  This man privately recognized my father in law before the ceremony for his vintage uniform, then did so again publicly during the ceremony.  It is amazing that he still fits in the uniform at 85 years old.  We topped of the day with a lunch of Weinerschnitzel and beer at Valters German restaurant in Columbus' German Village. Some may recall taht since I can not do a restoration project with my older boy like I am doing with his younger brother, I bought him a 72 Charger that was owned and restored by the late father of one of his high school friends.  He will begin his military career in April when he reports to Fort Rucker Al to start training to fly helicopters as a US Army Aviator.  I look forward to my first ride 2 years from now in a Blackhawk or a Chinook.

As a retired Army Warrant Officer and Blackhawk pilot, congratulations to your son on his accomplishments. :clapping:

P.S. As a former 'Hawk driver, I highly recommend the Blackhawk, but then again, I am biased!  :D
Cheers!

Tis' better to have owned classic Mopars and lost than to have never owned at all (apologies to Alfred Lord Tennyson)

A roommate of mine from college also flew a UH-69.  Gave me an upclose look at one years ago, a very effective aircraft for sure.

Thank you for your service @RzeroB
