Can't download the pic (pay-to-download website), but this is the best shot of the engine callout on the hood I have ever seen. You may need to zoom your computer screen, mine works best at 110 %. Pic 5 in the top row. Sure looks like  "440 Magnum" to me. Ignore the distracting.....ah....cigarette commercial.....

"Yeah, it's hopped up to over 160........"

One of these days I'm going to have to watch that movie as much as you guys talk about it.   :D

Probably, but when watching remember the context of the time it was made in. To evaluate it as a modern movie with plot twists, slick camera work, and cgi graphics can leave some first time viewers less than impressed.

A part of the movie that was cut out, but was shown in Europe un-cut was the mystery hitch hiking girl that Kowalski picked up along the trip. A very surreal, almost ghost like set of scenes that you may or may not know about.

Good thing she's in the front seat, because the car is missing the rear seat...

 Very nice 340challconvert! That was a good part, which unfortunately was cut from the U.S version. She supposedly "represented" Death in the movie...

I bought a Vanishing Point DVD off eBay a while back that has both the US and European (with the lady in Black)  versions of the movie on it. Looking now, most listed are blu-ray.  Mine isn't blu ray and I'm not sure if the blu ray ones out there now have both versions, but the regular DVDs with this cover do.

Have to watch it with a viewpoint of the timeframe of when it was made!

I agree with the 440 4bbl 4-speed drivetrain for most of the cars used - you can see the dana in a few shots

& power window switches visible when the couple gets kicked out of the car after trying to rob K

there was a 383 automatic - claimed to be the tow car, used to pull the Camaro into the 'dozers

the R/T that Charlotte Rampling is seated in has the "salt & pepper" cloth inserts in it
