Here's the first step(s) in rust repair...
#1 Start with a desirable car
#2 Strip the car 100% apart
#3 Have the car media blasted and primed
#4 MOST IMPORTANT weld the car to a frame table BEFORE replacing any panels.
In this particular case, the right rear frame rail is 3/4" off of factory specs in the rear corner :verymad:
Keith Sim Metalcraft does all of my rust repair.
Alan . . Your talents are first class! Always amazed with your work! Who knows, maybe one day I will hire you! :ohyeah:
I have a great team of people :perfect10: and I'd be honored to restore a car for you :bigmoney:
B7 convertible :inlove: I can't wait to see this come back to life. Seriously you need your own TV show. It would be WAY better then anything on TV now. Everyone with an E-Body project would be lined up around the block saying :takemymoney:
EB7 Exterior
B5 interior
V3W White top
V6B Blue longitudinal stripe :wowzers:
Seriously!!!! That's  That's got to be the only one. I know there's no way to tell, but have you ever seen another one?

oh...and a factory FOUR SPEED too
Going to be awesome for sure!! I can't wait to see it all back together!
With all the measurements taken and the car now welded solid to the frame table, only then should you start removing large panels. Even though not clearly seen in the pictures, the center floor, trunk floor and rails were pretty swiss cheese so it made the most sense to replace them as a unit using DII's rear section, both financially and structurally . :alan2cents:
Also noted...the passenger side rail has a good size dent near the main bend, and this car had shown signs of being tapped in the rear....Now most shops NOT using a frame table, would most likely not notice that the rear of the rail was 3/4" to high from factory specs....Most shops would have likely just went ahead with new quarters etc...and complained why the AMD panels don't line up
I'm glad I have Keith in my corner :worship:
:lurking: Actually in Keith's hand in the first pic is the inner rocker panel patch he was fabricating because of rust "inside" the torque box where you normally wouldn't see. There will be lots of hand fabrication on the convertible wheel tubs etc...
You and Keith know your stuff. Nothing left to chance. Those Dii rear sections are pretty slick. Makes replacing rear rails a lot easier. Can't wait to see all the metal work done. Thanks for sharing! :thankyou:
Nice. As always. :ohyeah:
Good job,
Here Keith has made convertible quarters using AMD hardtop quarters...he has the correct die for the step flange.
Curiously enough the belt molding area is about a 1/4 at the rear then a hardtop quarter....here's a fix for that (no finished of course) but how many people miss this little detail ?
Nice attention to detail!!! :clapping:
Very Nice Alan. I'm always a big fan of EB7 & EB3 cars! :slapme5:
How does Alan make it look so easy? Another vote for Alan to have his own show. Does he ever sleep? I honestly wonder.
I'm really looking forward to meeting Alan in person this year. I've learned so much from him and it will be great to shake hid hand and thank him. :handshake: One of the good guys in our hobby!

:iagree: Happy to call him a friend. If you think WHAT he does is impressive, you'd be even more impressed when you saw WHERE he does it.
Totally agree with that. This guy is the king of a low overhead business.
"low overhead".....I'm not getting any head :haha:
As I work on the red car, my metal guy Keith is hard at work on this convertible. We're reaching the end soon on this one.
I'm interested in that frame table, I can see 8 points that it connects to the car, is there 2 more up front? Any pictures of the whole thing? Is it welded to the middle points and adjustable front and rear?
Sorry, I don't have any other pictures. There are points up front and they are adjustable, and welded to the car. :alan2cents:
Great metal work! Looking like it's getting super close to finished with that step.
Outstanding job. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

That is amazing! What a talent! :bravo:
That's got to be a good relationship. There is a lot of time spent on doing something the first time. You know every minute he spends on an E-body is all out production.
That's why Alan can put a car together so fast. No time spent figuring it out, just all out production.
Exactly: I can't think of better value than getting Alan to bolt your E-body together if you don't have the time or inclination to do it yourself.
:iagree: Very true! He is a rare "value" in a hobby that can get expensive fast.

In the background of all my pictures is my shop....a 1 3/4 car (supposed to be 2) car garage......
I suspected as much. I will never complain about my two car garage even though its more of a storage unit for my wife yet we live in a huge house...sigh. At least you get to work from home, but I was originally under the impression you had some major shop. You the man Alan.
Yep: I'm sick of the two car garage thing. Really have to be careful not to damage stuff.
Very impressive. I really enjoy looking through your restoration threads.
I could not do that, when I put the lawn mower in the garage(attached to my house) my wife says " I smell Gas" Well done Allan, I have 3 times the space and I can hardly walk in my shop. :perfect10:

Hmmmm that color looks familiar, I love it :inlove:, however I am a little bit biased to B7 ....
I saw this B7 R code R/T SE at the Moparfest in Canada in 2016. It was GORGEOUS!!
That B7 with white is gorgeous. I wasn't too crazy about my all B7 Hemi GTX, it needed to be cut with something. It looked a lot better with 70, 15X7 Rallyes on it as they brightened it up a bit.
Car looks good Alan!
This convertible has a white top, B5 blue interior and a V6B BLUE Longitudinal stripe :drooling:
Oh yeah that will look awesome. I screwed up not buying a local R/T SE with the V6B.
here's the Fury III EB7 "Jamaica blue metallic" '70 convertible I used to own :takepicture:
I was planning to put white "Sport Fury S/27" strobe stripes on it ..... but that didn't happen
Peacock Blue.... Would that be V6B ?

I like 383's as well. I seen lots of strong running 68-69 Runners. The big block likes to rev like a small block with 440 heads feedling less cubes. The worst problem building a 383 is the lack of good pistons available for them in the last few decades.

Are the faces of the Rear Brake Drums always painted RED?
Does it make a difference if the rims are Rallye <or> Road?
Or what year they are?
If so what color RED do you use?
I don't recall seeing any RED paint on 70 AAR and they are the Original Rear Drums, could have just been worn off though.
Typically an open faced wheel car such as Magnums or Rallies would get red drums a steel wheel car wouldn't.
I don't know if it's correct or not, don't care, I think it looks great....I just use Tremclad rust paint - red.

Speaking of red paint on the rear drums; my original drums had the remnants of the red paint from what looks like only the center section of the drum. Was this correct?
My original (1st pic) and samples I picked up for reference show the red paint in the outer circumference of the drum.
I also have remnants of yellow paint in the center alcove of the axle.
Looks good: Yes the red and yellow came from Ma Mopar.

1970 Challenger EB7 ?
1970 Challenger V6B ?
1970 Challenger R/T convertibles (JS27) ~ 2.8% of
955 were EB7 ~
27 cars (in a tie for 12th
of 20 most popular color with FF4 & FT6)
~ 4.2% of
955 had the H6B5 vinyl bucket seat interior ~
40 cars (tan vinyl & tan leather were the only "rarer" interiors)
~53.3% of
955 had the STANDARD vinyl side stripes (all colors) ~
509 cars (I'm sure V6B is significantly RARE!)
***** (~19.7% (~188) with "bumblebee" stripe (V9_), ~9.1% (~87) with body-side-mouldings (V5_) & ~17.9% (~171) with NO stripes/mouldings (V68) *****
there were
1,070 Challenger R/T convertibles (JS27) built for the 1970 model year
Nice!! :worship: :worship:

Thanks guys....
We were talking at Moparfest today....
How many V6B blue stripe 1970 Challengers have you seen either restored or projects ???
We could only recollect 3 total
This one with B7
Dave W.'s with white
and a Hemi one with B5
Please search the internet and find any example you can, we'd love to see them.
I used to own a project. 70 RT/SE, B7 blue with the V6B stripe and a blue houndstooth interior.
I don't know what the buyer did with it after I sold it. Should have kept it but I couldn't.
Let's get some pictures going
That car was beautiful Alan. There's just something about that body colour/stripe colour combination that leaves you in awe and the convertible showing off the blue interior was the icing on the cake.
Alan - The car is stunning but I'm sure pictures don't even do it the justice it deserves.
question - did you reuse the original sunvisor plates and latches or did you opt for the reproductions? I just bought a set from PG Classics and I was surprised at how nice they are.
Alan, looks great. Car came out great and all that blue looks great. Not something that you see everyday with the V6B blue stripe. I love seeing an underside so nice and clean you could eat off of it. Look forward to the next one coming together.
That exhaust looks great too if I do say so myself.
Alan........the wife never says much about our cars....but this one, ...she said you need your own TV show. Beautiful. And I agree! :wowzers:
:iagree: Alan is pretty good in front of the camera. I liked the video I recently watched where he quickly and wisely joked around with the guy who referred to his restoration as amateur. It could of been an awkward moment, but Alan just had fun with it.
He would need to hire some ding bat like me to consistently screw up everything and get upset to really sell the show as a reality show.
That is an awesome job! :bradsthumb: and a beautiful car. You really do a great job.

Alan - The car is stunning but I'm sure pictures don't even do it the justice it deserves.
question - did you reuse the original sunvisor plates and latches or did you opt for the reproductions? I just bought a set from PG Classics and I was surprised at how nice they are.
Restored originals.
One last show last night while the car is in Ontario....
You make me so proud of my new baby! :veryexcited:

I have five on the go, hoping to finish three of them by the end of this year. Another sunroof car in the garage today.
Wow, 6 in a year!
I'll do one in 6 years....maybe.
