Can't believe it only bid to $58,500.00 :notsure: https://www.mecum.com/lots/PA0817-302787/1970-plymouth-aar-cuda/
While I was posting it sold $60,000.00 Still cheap.
Looking at the engine bay, I think $60k is about right. :alan2cents: It would take a lot of time and money to take that car to a higher level.
$60K is strong money for a non-numbers matching, automatic with a large amount of incorrect details. I would hate to see the underside :alan2cents:
Coming up in a few, non matching https://www.mecum.com/lots/PA0817-294883/1970-dodge-challenger-ta/
$42,500.00, no sale
Maybe I'm reading these wrong. Does "Correct T/A block" mean it's a numbers matching car or just has a non-numbers T/A block?
Either way....The detailing on this T/A is nicer, but the colour is less desirable....I guess it sells in the same $60K range.
Tomorrow, great looking car. https://www.mecum.com/lots/PA0817-302840/1973-dodge-challenger/

My experience is that "Correct" means it's the correct year but not numbers matching. It's an attempt by car marketers to fool less savvy buyers into thinking it's the "real deal". See it all of the time. Some use "Original" to describe numbers matching but even that seems like they have something to hide. I prefer "numbers matching" if it is such. :alan2cents:
Wow, I forgot all about the auction in Harrisburg, I was going to go. I
I know the t/a isn't a high impact color but over the years that green has grown on me, I kinda like it. my favorite will always be the fj5 on the aar or t/a, but then again, I kinda like them all. :)
The T/A looks like a better car, but the color could be holding it back. If it was my T/A I would not let it go for $42.5k.
The 73 Challenger brought $29,500.00 https://www.mecum.com/lots/PA0817-302840/1973-dodge-challenger/
Seems like a fair price for that car. Sure do like those stripes. :inlove:

That was a super cool Hemi Challenger.
That's what I think too Cody. I'm thinking for $165 it has some issues like non original options etc. Be nice to know the particulars, I think even I would have stepped up for that one at that price if it was all real. Matching #'s engine it says along with broadcast sheet. No way could it be a real shaker car at that price.

I think a 2 tag car.
There's a lot more 2 tag E-Bodies in 1971 vs 1970 because they started putting more standard codes on the tags in 1971. For example, J25 was part of the A62 so only A62 was listed on 1970 tags, but they started putting both codes on in 1971.

They ran that car at the June 2017 Barret Jackson auction and it did not meet reserve. They showed a portion of the undercarriage and it was really cruddy. :crying:
I just got back from the auction, All the E bodies there had issues of some kind! The sassy grass green AAR by far for the money it drew. It was already loaded on the truck early in the day so I didn't see in personally but was told by numerous people it was a roach. All issue's that have been pointed out. Plus bad paint, gaps and very wavy. A definite 30+ footer. The F8 green T/A was by far the better of the two, very very straight. But not a desirable color. The 71 Hemi had the vinyl top and shaker added but overall a very nice car. The blue u code Challenger that brought $75k was the nicest, a total nut and bolt. The only issue I could see on the car was the rear bumper. It had to be an AMD bumper cause they have a slight bow to them that closes off the gap between the bottom of tail lights and the top of the bumper. I have an AMD on the back of mine and it bugs the hell out of me. The black 70 cuda, the sublime 70 and the 74 were nice drivers and bought accordingly. Like any auction, the cars ranged from, My god, that is gorgeous :wowzers: to, why pay Mecum to sell that thing! :stop: Get a for sale sign and the front yard!
Thanks for the insight Voodoo!
Sounds like a lot of the auctions, you really need to be there and see it in person to know the condition. Thanks for the update.

I sold this car a few months back to a flipper. I would like to know what is wrong with the engine bay. It has a problem but you can't see in the photos. The underneath has no rust what so ever. The floor plans are nice as you can find. The trunk pan had been replace before I bought it. Had the car for 6 years i believe. Traded it for the Tor red 6 barrel. Took 3rd at Carlisle.
Her's my new one. A big step up, just can't drive it like the AAR. I drove it a lot.
Computer stupid. Have no idea why that picture loaded upside down, Sorry!

WRONG:
Air Filter
Battery
By pass hose not painted
wiper motor painted gold
no part numbers on the heater hoses
non painted alternator pulley
I flipped it for ya. :bigthumb:

The little details is what separates the big dollar cars from those that seem to be on the affordable side. It looks like a nice fun car and I would be happy if I owned it.
Somethings that Alan mentioned would need to be addressed to get top dollar. I would also:
- Paint the Oil Dip Stick Black
- Correct the bolts that hold the fenders on (add the correct studs in the right spots)
- The Heater Blower motor should be silver zinc coated and not painted black
- Pulley on the alternator should be black
The thermostat water housing has been removed so I would be asking myself why it has been apart. Did the car have an over heating problem? When you can see the bolts have been removed and the gaskets is free of paint it tells me someone has been in there to fix something. Maybe it's nothing big and just needed a thermostat replaced, but I look for little signs like that.
What was the problem that can not be seen in the photos?

Fan motor on AAR was black. Wiper was not painted when I had the car. Not sure what they did after I sold it.
Nothing at all wrong with the motor. Ran as smooth as silk and had about 5k miles on it. Thermostat house was painted and fine when it left here.
Passenger fender was replace by a Cheby guy who painted and straighten my hood after I told him not to straighten it. This was done last year. Really pissed me of, made me not like my car. Still pissed, never take a mopar to a Cheby man!

Fan motor is not supposed to be black on an AAR or any other 70 E Body for that matter :alan2cents:
That T/A seems like it was bought well. Looked pretty nice for the money. Hope all the new owners of the cars enjoy their new toys.

I logged into Mecum and it said the F8 T/A sold for $48250
I was there and checked out that AAR. I hate picking apart cars but in person it had many issues. The paint was good but it had a few cracks in the door jams. The tape lines were not clean on the fenders and the side of the hood looked cracked. Not much detail work done on it. Nice driver though. You would have to do a lot to make this real nice. There is a pink AAR here in NJ in Warren at one of those detail/ storage building and it is all patched up and under coated and their asking $89K That T/A I thought was real nice and I think the buyer got a good deal

it is 1B375721
The AAR I HAD was fun to drive but not a $60k car. I sold it for less and was happy. I put a 3.23 gear in it so It would drive better. Still have the 3:91. The person I sold it to sold it to the person that had it in Harrisburg. The right quarter is a problem. Looks like it may have been coverd up, not sure. It was that way when I got and I didn't know it.
The hemi challenger that went for $165K dashpad was split down the middle. One strange thing I noticed was the engine compartment was painted nice but the 2 fender tags were not and was a very noticeable different color blue. FYI Still a beautiful car.
Mecum Monterey on now thru Saturday. Not many E Bodies . I;ll post some Mopars.
