Title: Can't find 8 3/4 axle seals/gaskets
Post by: FSHTAIL on September 29, 2017, 02:16:36 PM
I've gone to four different auto parts stores and none of them can find me axle seals or  the end seal gaskets.

Not in stock, doesn't even give an option to order.

AutoZone, O'Reilly, Napa, and one more Napa..

The rear end I'm using is out of a 65 Dodge Coronet, so I had them look up 65, 66 Dodge Coronet, 70 Cuda, 70 Challenger.

Zero.

I was hoping to get a jump start on this Swap this weekend, but this is a stupid setback. Either these parts aren't available anymore or I have found all of the idiots on the right day.

Please advise.

Picture of seal I want to replace.
And the gaskets needed for that end flange.  (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170929/cfb713452aee91909869ea1545883ab0.jpg)

I get mine from MoparDave.  Mancini has them also as well as Doctor Diff.   I doubt you will find or get the correct ones from a local parts store.

That is assuming that the flanges are the same as the later 8.75" axles  ;)

When you are working on something much older than the kid behind the counter, you have to expect that!!!

Yep, that is what the parts books are for; the ones collecting dust in the back room... if they still even have them.  ::)

:haha: :haha:    The best way to deal with parts stores is look up the part # first, then hand it to the parts guy when you walk in. After the deer in the headlights look, you will get your parts. Do your research first.     :alan2cents:             :rebelflag"

150%.  :iagree:
Or place your order at the local parts  ( advance, pep boys, etc) website to try and speed things up and maybe even get a little discount

MrBill

Do you know the parts for the axle bearings for a 8.75?

Thanks Ken

If you mean the axle shaft bearing, the set number is a (NAPA) BR7, includes the cup, cone, and retaining ring.

Thanks is there a special seal that goes into the retainer?

The outer seal is NAPA 19000, National 8704S, or Mopar 2404216
The carrier to housing gasket is Felpro RDS6583

I just want to make sure that I have the right seal. The one I'm referring is the one fits into the bearing retainer adjustment plate. I wanted to buy all Timken from Rock Auto. Thats why I was asking for the numbers. Thanks for the help.

Thanks Ken

Yes.  I think all those seals are for is to keep the axle bearing grease in and dirt/water out.   The inner seals keep the gear lube from flowing out and getting into the brakes.  The bearings do not run in oil, they are lubed by packed grease.

If I am wrong, someone PLEASE step up and set me straight.
