Rear Tires Turn when Trans is in Park

On my 70 Barracuda with a 727 Slap Stick I noticed I can turn the rear tires by hand when it's in park. It was like this when I bought the car. I had the trans rebuilt because it was leaking so badly (cheaper to rebuild than a re-gasket/seal). The car still has the same problem. Is there an adjustment to the linkage? Internally, isn't the parking pawl supposed to lock the trans from turning? Trying to get these safety issues resolved. My Trans guy is a Chevy guy and may not know Mopars that well. Thanks

The "Parking Lock Assembly" in the tail housing should indeed lock the output shaft when in park.  This presumes your shift linkage is correctly adjusted to push the shift lever all the way back into PARK.  It doesn't lock the input, for obvious reasons.

Are both rear wheels off the ground when you're able to rotate one rear wheel in park? 

If so, maybe everything is fine, as the other rear wheel turns in the opposite direction?

Are you seeing the drive shaft rotate when you turn the rear wheel while it's in park? 

If so, I think you're right, the parking lock assembly may be broken.  The car would likely roll down your driveway even when in park.  A good thing to test.

The tires rotate in the opposite direction. The driveshaft does not turn when I rotate the tires. The shifter noes feel a little stiff when I put it in park.  Thanks

  What you're describing is normal for a non sure-grip differential.. You're simply spinning the axles/spider gears around the differential without the ring and pinion moving.. On the ground the vehicle wouldn't roll because they'd need to travel in the same direction and the ring and pinion need to move for that..
