70 Challenger R/T (clone)

I couldn't justify the $800+ for Holley Retrobrights so ended up spending a LOT of time looking for good alternatives.

And WOW, there is a LOT of junk to look at before finding actual "good alternatives".

Do any of you have these on your Challenger?

Octane Lighting 5-3/4 Stock OEM Retro Style Glass Metal Headlight LED 4000Lm H4 Light Bulb Headlamp Set (G5 LED Bulbs, 5.75")

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZKC69L5?psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_ct_4WHMSJ89MJZFJ9HMVJTS

My simple criteria:
- Complete kit for $250 or less
- Plug & Play (no modifications to anything)
- Significantly better light
- Can be aimed properly
- Readily available replacement bulbs
- Available Customer Support
- Bulbs don't use obnoxiously loud cooling fans (I'm not sure if the Octane bulbs in the kit have fans or not)

Thanks for looking,
RayL

Katfish

I'm cheaper than you, got 4 H4 conversion bulbs and lights for $80

avatar_Katfish @Katfish Can you provide details on what you purchased? I just can't search anymore - my eyes are bleeding ;-(

Thanks!

Katfish

I've had them in for 10yrs, actually just replaced a low beam that went out last week.
Something like this, honestly they are all basically the same, unless you buy a brand like Hella.

avatar_Katfish @Katfish - Thanks. I'm sure I looked at all of those at one point or another. Definitely the Hellas and too many on eBay. Glad to hear its been working well for you for 10 years!

I'm still leaning towards the kit from Octane because it should be complete (lamps, LED bulbs, harness, etc). I called them and they confirm their kit is an exact fit for the Challenger. And if it's not, I can pack it up and ship it back to Amazon at no extra cost.

Yes, the Retro-Brights are expensive. But I just waited till Summit had them on sale (30% off, each) and I'm glad I did. The brightness is amazing and perfect and they were super easy to install. A direct fit, no modifications or special connectors to install. Took me maybe 30 minutes to install all 4 (70 Challenger).
And honestly they do look pretty retro, most people would never know they not.

Just my perspective.

PS: that finished my car for LEDs, everything is modern  :bigthumb:

avatar_70vert @70vert - I agree those Holley Retrobrights look and perform great. No-brainer choice if I had the cash, but the money pit has other ideas for my project dollars ;-)

Thanks for the reply

I did something similar to Katfish. Working great for a long time now..I paid somewhere in the $60 range.

$60 range sounds good! I just ordered the Octane kit. Going for that KISS principal. Should be here in a few days. I'll post back with results once everything is sorted. As usual, the headlights are just a few flakes on the snowball  :bigthumb:

i bought from amazon the Unishine LEDs for $100 bucs.   They went in with only a conversion wiring kit that came with it, easy as can be.   And I absolutely love them...so much brighter than incandescent dont draw much current and dont get hot.

Night and day !!

avatar_chargerdon @chargerdon - Thanks for another affordable option. https://a.co/d/g5qerYU

Not stock / old school, but I do like the look.

Oh the middle stripe on them can be set up as daytime running lights..   I havent done that yet .

I added a set of headlight relays (from Crackedback) and kept the standard halogen bulbs.  Being I dont drive my car much at night, couldn't justify the expense of LED headlights.

P @PLUM72 - I have spent a lot of time unwinding wiring changes made by previous owners that I'm now at a point where I don't want to touch it again.

I've seen several mentions of that same set of relays. Sounds like a good option. Glad it worked for you. And thanks for posting another affordable option!

crackedback

My kit you don't touch the factory wiring other than to connect the trigger to it.   Runs parallel, no fussing or cutting.

Looks like you picked an approach.  Have at it!
