I picked up a bell crank and lower kickdown linkage rod for my 340/727. It almost works. But one end is 1/4" and the other ix 5/16". The transmission lever hole 1/4 and the bell crank hole is also 1/4. The bell crank actually has two holes which are 5/16 and 1/4 but according to the diagram the rod goes into the one that is 1/4.

My thought is either the rod is incorrect or I need a different transmission arm. The MMC Detroit Guide to Fasteners book lists several arms without being too specific.

Does any one know if the rod SHOULD be the same size on both ends, or the transmission kickdown lever has several options with different diameters, or something else?

What you have there is correct.
The lower bellcrank has a 5/16 opening for the end of the vertical rod that drops from the top bellcrank.
The 1/4 opening is for the stepped down to 1/4 inch end on the lower rod

Thanks for the confirmation.

With a bit more "studying" and a bit of guessing based on mancini and roseville moparts website, there are several kickdown levers. Though they don't say the size, I think there is a specific one for the single kickdown rod with the smaller end and the 3 piece kickdown rod with the large rod end. So, I'll update after after I plunk down another $30
