Ordered replacement seat backs for my 1970 Challenger and could not get them to fit correctly. I notice the 71-74 are all one piece with the built in
button bracket, so no alignment needed. With a little modification can i use the later seat backs on my 1970 car. It's just a nice driver, so originality
not important. I also believe my seat belts can still be used.

Are you asking if your understanding is correct? Yes. They will work.

What exactly is the issue, are you sure the frames are the correct year, are they possibly damaged or bent? FYI - there are `70 style seat backs, `71-72 style seat backs but`73-74 seats were full vinyl back so no plastic seat backs on those years.

Thanks for the information, I believe my 70 Challenger has 71-72 seats?
The previous owner cut the bottom of the seat back (curve part) to make them fit.
so I ordered 70 backs and would need to do the same thing. The photo is of the original seat.

:soshelp: I find I have 73 seats with 70 covers(ACC) now 71-72 seat backs!
 Will that combination work?

I doubt if it's feasible, different foam, frame & release , below is the 73-4 style

Apologies to member facair55 for hijacking his thread.
It just hit me after I returned from the upholstery shop yesterday afternoon.
This issue actually started nearly 30 years ago when I found a build sheet for a 1970 model in a just purchased, mixed parts/ragged 73 Challenger that got me back to Mopar.
My question is, Are there screw provisions on 73 frames that would allow "seat backs" ?
The upholsterer said he could add padding for the 70 model covers for me.

Thank-You to all for your past, Present and future help assembling this basket case.

I think that 73-74 Challenger has no hard back.  It is just upholstered.
At least that is the way it has been with my 72-73 Challengers with bucket seats.

Thank you MoparLeo for your reply on this. I thought, 30 years ago (Someone) recovered my seats and never installed the backs.  Now I'm stuck with backless seat covers and seatbacks. I am hoping the backs can be attached to the 73 frames. I guess we find out in 2 weeks when my upholster opens them up.
