restoring a 74 Barracuda all the interior panels had rotted out, got the new ones and noticed the rear passenger side window crank has a extended support bracket ( the drivers side does not have it) and sticks out about 1 inch to 2 inch further then the driver rear crank handle?  does anyone know why?  and before you comment on the rear panel, they were a great deal, because they were cut for electric windows, and is the reason for the square hole.  If they were the normal round, there would be a bulge there and the crank would still be too far out!

well one side is wrong...they should be the same.

Not sure which is right though.

In 74, the factory added front seat shoulder belt retractors.  The retractors were located behind the rear interior panels.  I wonder if this is part of the problem?  Was there any difference in the 1/4 window mechanisms in 74 compared to the other years?

Your replacement interior panels don't have the cutout for the shoulder belt retractors.  Are you planning on putting those back on?

Well I thought that, but both sides had the retractors in the same place

No I am not putting the shoulder belt retractors, for now, simply because no one offered panels with the cutout or the cut out covers - didnt like them anyway

drivers side fits perfectly, but the support bracket on the passenger side is factory it was not added and not really needed, but it is there for a reason, I am just stumped as to why

Burdar

One of them is obviously incorrect.  If there was a change in the mechanisms for 74 due to the shoulder belt retractors, the left hand side may be incorrect.(for 74)  If not, then the right hand side is incorrect.  Since you aren't worried about using the retractors, you need to look for a replacement that matches the left hand side.  Some more pictures with dimensions of what you have and what you need would help when looking for the correct part.

Remove the interior panels and measure the brackets in question.

Isn't there a difference between the length of window crank shaft of a Cuda compared to a Challenger? Is one side a Challenger window mechanism? Just thinking.

Yes it is, Cuda's are shorter, that might be a Challenger piece.

You have a Challenger window regulator there, and it's hard to tell from the picture angle, but you might also have it mounted on the wrong side. When correctly mounted the shaft should at a 90% angle (coming out straight) from the panel. :alan2cents:

Well that might explain a few things, we think the car was hit on that side, though the metal seems original, a little bondo, and the door line up, is off a hair, maybe they order the wrong part, when they replaced it -  It is a 90 degree, just sticks out about 1 inch more then the drivers side ( I hope your saying the passenger one with the support is the challenger one) I cut the support bracket off, and to save time, Im going to cut the crank bar, shorten it and weld it back on, since it should hold and be done with it - weird - thanks for the comments
