70 non ac heater box question #2

so after i got the heater box in and fastened and the cables reattached i noticed  this  See Photo.  what am i missing here?  why is it so separated?

It is supposed to have a gap there. When the defroster is on, the air from the fan goes past that gap drawing more cabin air in, increasing the air volume to the windshield.

well that's relief !!  i thought i had to buy more parts. lol

Mine is the same. As Alan stated, gap is normal.

Interesting someone made that, because that's not how the system is designed to work.
