My November 69 SBD Challenger has a ~5" long coated wire cable with eyelets attached by screws to the console lid and console.  During parts chasing for my April 70 T/A restoration, I ended up buying a couple off eBay listings, as it didn't have one.  During reassembly, I looked closely at the console, almost surely the original as I've had the car 40 years, and there were no screw holes for installing the cable.
So I'm trying to figure out the mystery of if console lid cables were only used for a certain period of E body production?  It certainly doesn't appear there ever would have been one installed on my spring built car.

I could use one for mine, September 69 sbd has screw holes.

My 70 console is currently in a protective box as the resto grinds on, but it's the original. It's a SPD 11-4-69. I can dig it out tonight if you don't get many replies.

I've noticed that as well. Early ones seem to have the cable. My 71 doesn't have it but my 70 built in Sep 1969 does.

Kinda a rule of thumb is 1970 consoles have the cable and 1971 and up do not.  I'm sure there was a date cut off, but most of the 1970's I've seen have had it.  Here's the 1970 Challenger T/A with less than 200 miles on it.  SPO of April 6th 1970.

Since we're talking about it, the console plate also has 4 screws for 1970 and the 1971+ have 5 (one extra in the center).

@JH27N0B Where did you find the one's you bought?

Talking about consoles I found this on my 70. I never noticed it before. Funny they would have both part numbers stamped on the same console. Anybody know why ?

Well my face is red, I just went out to my garage to take a picture of the T/As console showing no holes, and darned if it doesn't have screw holes for the cable.  My fading memory must have been thinking of my '71.  :drunk:
I guess I better find some hardware to install one of the ones I'd gathered.
But somehow during parts gathering I'd managed to buy multiples. I have yet another with black plastic covering and another in nice shape but plastic missing.  What are they worth?

My dilemma with this subject continues.  The other day, with nice weather and free time on my hands, I decided I'd install the cable on my console so I'd finally stop seeing it in my kitchen where I'd put it so I wouldn't forget about it.
I come to find my console has a mounting hole for it, but the lid has a recess where the screw hole would be tapped, but no screw hole.
So before I drill a hole I want to be sure the car originally had a cable.  Maybe they phased out its use sometime in spring of '70?  The 4/6 SBD T/A clearly had one.  Could it be possible by 4/15 they stopped?  I suppose its possible my lid got broken sometime before I bought the car in 78, and got replaced with a new lid from the parts counter that wasn't tapped, or one from a junked later build car, so they didn't reinstall the cable.  @mo6pak owns a T/A identical to mine 3 VINs after my car, if his has the cable that would convince me my lid was replaced and I should tap that recess for the screw to install it.

Ok, now I'm curious too. Headed to my shop to look at my 70 challenger console. SPD 11/4/69, automatic. Stay tuned for pics.

Looking at the console again, I am pretty sure there was a screw installed in the hole in the console at one point, so the lid must have been replaced.  Guess I need to drill a hole!

Just went out to my garage and took a few photos of my T/A console for ya. Hope this helps.
