F8 Challenger RT Green Headliner Providers?

Ok, learning a lot here.  Thanks especially to guys like @F8RT , @anlauto , and @6bblgt .  This F8 car, V1F Top (placing the SMS order thanks to these guys), and the green, green, green has been a fun research project.  My new question is should I also order the headliner from SMS as well?  I'm highly into doing this car right.  Would SMS be the same lengthy wait on the headliner or is there another option that'd be a quality match?  (H5F8 trim code if that matters, and I have the build sheet and fender tag if more info is needed)

I've only used headliners from Legendary Auto Interiors so I really can't comment on SMS.

You might want to check with Acme Headliners   http://www.acmeautoheadlining.com/ind.html They provide material to Legendary as well and to various other vendors.  You have to be a vendor to purchase from them, but I am sure that they will suggest a vendor if the material is available. 

SMS has some NOS material and has reproduced some of the material.  If you go the route of SMS, expect it to be a considerable wait to get the product and it will not be inexpensive.

@7E-Bodies The tan that was in my car had what I believe they call snake bite holes. I received sample from Legendary it had holes but wasn't the right color and material had lines or small ridges which did not match the original. SMS was an exact match. It did take a while but nothing like the vinyl top. Now it was twice the price but again a perfect match. Both places will send free samples. My suggestion is order samples then decide.

@F8RT excellent points.  And unlike the vinyl top, I do have the old head liner.  It was in exceptional condition except for dry rot.  I'll have SMS shoot me a sample.  Thanks again.

Legendary has likely sold 1000's of Challenger headliners, SMS not so much. I'd rather go with a headliner that is proven to fit.

You might be right about number made but if it's not the right material is it what you would want? It's like our vinyl tops Legendary probably makes more but they weren't correct so we both ordered from SMS. I'm in hopes that my headliner installer is the one that makes the difference in a good fit or not. I haven't installed it yet because I'm still waiting on vinyl top to have my shop do both at the same time.

with the exception of a certain green vinyl top - I have not heard any negative quality comments about SMS's products

Who says Legendary's material is not correct ? Who say's SMS's is ? I've never heard anything

I have an original car with Tan interior that I have owned for 44 years. I had samples sent from both Legendary and SMS. So I would be the one saying Legendary's tan headliner is not even close to correct. The SMS sample was dead on color and texture. As I suggested ask for samples from both and then decide. Legendary is half the price and their other colors might be correct but the tan is not. Classic Industries and several other suppliers carry the same tan material Legendary has. SMS was the only correct material I could find. Can't stress enough get samples!

@F8RT good advice on getting samples.  I listen.  One is on the way from SMS as we speak, and I saved the original headliner for comparisons.  Other than dry rot, it was in remarkable condition.  Thanks for the advice.

I've used both Legendary as well as SMS, seat covers, headliners as well as door panels.  If you're not restoring that 1%er, has to be exact to original car, 99% Legendary is hands down the best on the market .  If the car is one of those super high dollar pieces, SMS is the only way to go.  I used them on my 66 HEMI 4 door with headliner material as well as seat cover material and door panels.  They also supplied the NOS seat cover material for my pink 70 Fury.  Our resident expert has never restored a car deserving of the absolutes so his experience is limited, the SMS material is spot on.  The seat cover material as well as headliner material I've used from SMS was yards of material only and sewed by a friends shop here locally from my original pieces.  SMS can be somewhat difficult to deal with in reference to lead time, however, nothing on the planet gets better to originality.

@HEMICUDA very detailed and sound advice that will be heeded.  Although not a 6 figure car, it is indeed very rare optioned and in stunningly solid condition after being stored 30+ years.  I'm also dealing with a car with 95% of its original parts with all numbers matching.  It's also a near twin to one I owned in my youth.  I don't mind making it as original as possible regardless of cost as I'm fairly skilled in most of the build.  Sound advice and thank you!

If you don't have a shop locally to sew up your headliner, I would suggest contacting Bill Edwards.  Send him your original and the SMS material, he'll hook you up, great guy to deal with.  Just like the crappy trunk mats that's been available for years, you're going to pay 3-4x more for perfection.  I'll PM you Bills number.
