How close are the headliner bows to the roof?

just to add a bit. I added dynomat or something similar to the roof. I recall the bows touching. When I put in the headliner they kinda roll into position. I pulled it tight then secured it with the retaining wire (or whatever its actually called). The bows are springy and get nice and tight up against the roof.
