any know of a good brand of wrinkle finish spray paint for like a dash glove box door on a 70 cuda?  any factory spec stuff or just the household brand names?

Rich G.

It's not a wrinkle finish on the door unless that's what you're looking for.

oh it was smooth?  and what flat? semi gloss?  thanks

In 1970 it was called a suede finish....sort of a matte black with a very slight texture maybe similar to 600# grit sand paper. You can use a regular spray bomb and just move back on the last coat giving it a light dusting creating a slight texture. :alan2cents:

It was originally a textured "suede" finish...not "wrinkle".  Wrinkle is what was used on hemi valve covers and some other air cleaners.  The correct suede finish is available in pints so you can use a paint gun to apply it.  If you are looking for something in a rattle can, it was discussed recently in this thread.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but what IS used to create the wrinkle finish on an air cleaner?

Wrinkle paint.  You can get VHT wrinkle paint at your local Advance Auto.

If you have a local powder coater....there's a nice wrinkle finish powder coat that goes on super even.... :alan2cents:

To get the suede look on your dash first paint it with a Restoleum "FINE textured paint". just make sure that you apply a nice even WET coat. Once dried, top coat it with the colour [vinyl paint is recommended] of your choice. This is how I did mine [turned out great] This procedure was recommended to me by Dave from Performance Car Graphics. Here are the instructions that I received from Dave.

FYI - Here is the correct black factory paint from PPG. Watch Cody's video in our Resources section for how to spray this "suede" paint. Takes a few practice spray-outs but I wouldn't use anything else on mine.  :alan2cents:

You can get the correct suede paint for the dash frame and other interior parts from TCP Global at www.autocolorlibrary.com. And also agree if you want a wrinkle finish for something like an air cleaner or hemi valve covers or whatever, go and have it/them powdercoated in wrinkle finish. Well worth it.  :bigthumb:
