Hello all. First time posting on this forum. I bought my 72 Challenger back in 1990. It WAS a 318 car with auto trans, and a rust bucket. My boys and I finally tore into it around 2016 "I think". Alot of what we have done was documented on the other forum that apparently died out. I'm sure some of you have helped me in the past over there. Anyway, I just want to say up front that mine is a rebuild, not a restoration. We have done everything to this point ourselves (including paint), and it is ALL a first for us. Just throwing that out there, because I'm sure many of you will see things not done quite right maybe lol.

I am currently trying to figure out the fuel system, so after I finish this introduction, I'll post some questions about that. Thanks in advance for all the help I'm sure I will get here, and for not judging me for what I have done to this poor car. I'm just hoping to be able to drive it again someday.

Welcome! Lots of hard work and hours spent on this one! Good job!
What's up with your fuel system? Looks like your close to " making some noise"

Looks fantastic and I am very jealous!!!  Planning on making an attempt with my boy to do the same - paint and body will be a first for me as well!

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy horsepower and that's kind of the same thing.....

:welcome: or should I say welcome back? Many of us came from Cuda-Challenger site.

I had a 72 Challenger in 1980. Currently I have a 73. So is it a 318 in the engine bay now or something else?

Just an observation. I see that the carb you have is more of a racing type carb rather than a street oriented carb as it is a double pumper ( primary and secondary accelerater pumps not needed at all on the street) and no provision at all for a choke.
This will function ok in mild/warmer weather but may be challenging if it gets cold where you live.
One issue you my have already found is that the standard carb and trans linkages don't work properly on a high rise manifold and even more so if it had a 318 2 bbl. carb to start with. You ill have to either cobble a setup together or buy an aftermarket kit from suppliers like LOKAR.
Like anything else, the farther away from stock you go the more things you have to account for and work around.
Keep having fun and download a Factory Service Manual. Remember that the factory didn't put parts on cars that they didn't need.
They spent millions on research and developement over years of time to come up with the designs used on these cars.

I ran a Holley 750 DP with no choke on my 340 for 25 years on the street with no problem, just recently switched to a Demon vacuum secondary carb. Starting in really cold weather is a bit of challenge but I got pretty good at it but other than a mid winter warm up to run the fluids thru it I don`t ever need to.

:welcome: It's threads like these , that motivate me to keep moving forward on my car . Awesome looking car. Gotta love the color. Don't worry about done right, it's not a trailer queen is it? You've got more work done in a couple of years , compared to the 3+ decades my car sat on jack stands. Great job so far. Drive it and enjoy the time with your boys . What are your plans on the interior?
