I'd like to find an original set or recommendation for where to buy a complete set that is close to original. I've been avoiding this for as long as possible but it's time to install the carpet....

PG Classics sell nice reproductions in my opinion  :bigthumb:

HARDLY a "reproduction" when all the chrome ends aren't even 1970 style, that is GLARINGLY obvious.

I know there is a lot of negative Nancy's out there when it comes to PG Classics, and I know you have an extreme appreciation for originality and correctness, which I admire, :worship:  but for a lot of us, without reproduction parts we would be left in the dark....

These belts are nice enough for me, and personally I don't see and "GLARINGLY" obvious differences in the chrome ends

What's that old saying..."good enough for the girls I go out with...." :))

Alan: I can appreciate that your last post is a bad attempt at trying to show that you are not on PG Classics payroll,....... BUT,..... if anyone clicks on the link that you provided showing their "1970 convertible belts", they will see thus:  see picture provided by me. Your last picture is NOT from their website. I again say: GLARINGLY obvious.
1971 belt on the left, 1970 on the right.

Mr Cuda

I'm  trying to follow along,  and asides from Alan not being on the payroll, got that,  the 70 belts all look the same.
So this is one product from PG that does look the "same". Not confusing a 71 helps.
If someone could point out a specific detail? I'm  curious.
I've bought plenty of parts from PG lately,  and there are some shortcomings. Having something,  is better than not.

anlauto

I'm not sure what you're trying to say about their payroll, I pay for their parts just like anybody else....

The picture I posted is NOT from their website, rather the top of my desk comparing the 70 seat belts I recently purchased from PG Classics to an original seat belt from a 70 AAR that I'm currently restoring. :dunno:  As for the picture on their website, it's likely an old file photo they have, the colour green on their website is certainly not accurate either... :alan2cents:

If there's a difference in the shape of the metal bracket, I'm not seeing it

I'm aware the original poster was asking about 1970 seat belts (and likely would prefer to purchase originals) but member 198D13 brought up an interesting fact about the image shown on PG Classics website.

So I found a set of brand new PG Classics 1971 Cuda convertible seat belts that I purchased for the purple Hemicuda clone I'm building...

...and it appears that PG Classics has taken the time to develop the two different styles of chrome ends.

So I guess one complaint may be about the pictures on their website not being accurate.  :dunno:

The picture posted sideways, not straight up and down. As you should be able to clearly see, the belt on the left(bottom of my posted picture), has the chrome male end in 1971 style, because it is a 1971 original belt. The one on the right(read "top" in my picture) has the distinct rounded sides to it, which is 1970 only. As far as your two non website belts go, the quadruple plated right one, from PPG, you claim, has the stitching pattern associated with American Safety belts used only on LA made cars in 1970. LA never made convertibles, so that is also incorrect. The labels, if any on those PPG belts would also be impossible to have come on that belt. I can go on........

anlauto

You're confusing the heck out of me....First you were trashing PG Classics because the photo on their website clearly shows a GLARINGLY issue with 1970 advertised belts having 1971 style ends on them.
I have to guess that you have never purchased seat belts from PG Classics otherwise you would see that the 1970 belts have 1970 style chrome ends and the 1971 belts have 1971 style ends and shown in all my above posted pictures. :dunno:

But now you're questioning "stitch patterns" ? Seriously ?

Like I said, reproduction parts are not for everybody, but I for one, appreciate all the efforts made by PG Classics and the dozens of other companies out there producing parts to not only keep out beloved muscle cars on the road, but allow many, MANY other cars to be drug out of a field somewhere and restored. I will continue to support the aftermarket community, because if we don't....they'll just stop making parts altogether... :alan2cents:

Well, I gained something from this discussion. I've had these seatbelts for at least 30 years and could not remember what they were for. Now I know they are a 1970 style seat belt. They did not match the belts in both 71s I have. Good to know.

Mr Cuda

So, we've  gone from the buckle being incorrect,   to being correct or at least ok, to now the stitching is incorrect.
And now we know Alan is not a paid spokesperson,  just a major donor. My few thousands make me just a supporter.

I commented elsewhere,  after receiving my PG classics orders if there was a thread that covered quality  and correctness issues with aftermarket  parts. That ought to be a lively thread.

@71vert340 Terry, those are mostly 1970 LA E Body made belts, but there are 72 and up ones in there too.
@cuda_mark  Mark, because they are from an LA made car, they would not have ever been for a convertible, as no convertible were ever made at the LA plant, E Body ones anyways.

Nah, I only spend on average $6K a year with PG...hardly one of my biggest suppliers... :takemymoney:   but put it this way, their stuff is far from perfect OE Gold stuff, but it's "good enough" for a large percentage of the Mopar restoration hobby, if it wasn't, they wouldn't be in business for very long.
