Looking for one or two of these.

Thanks

DAYLEY/CHALLENGER

Well, I am going to ask the question...... is that a factory plug.?  Thought all were the black rubber cup type plugs?

Floyd

I believe it to be original to my 4/1 SPD Challenger T/A.  Here's where it was located.

I just gave away some NOS ones.  They're Tinnerman plugs and you might find that they are unique to Trans Am cars.  I'm still doing my research.  I installed a set of NOS ones in my AAR but I kept my originals.  I can hook you up.      Eddie

I have a set of NOS also Eddie, not sure where I got them.  :D  You "da man" Eddie, I dropped one of the two you sent me off at the original manufacturer yesterday which happens to be 2 miles from my house.  Fairly large plant, I happen to stop when they were out to lunch.  The secretary assured me she had the perfect person to give it to and would call me when they have an answer.  Tinnerman made many different style of clips for MOPAR back in the day.  They also made the shock access hole plug, similar to the plug used in the rear foot well of AAR'S and T/A's just larger.

Here is a picture of the plug in an AAR we have in the shop.

I will update everyone when I get an answer.

That's fantastic Mike!  Good luck and put me down for a set if you have any luck.

Did you see the Tinnerman part number that was on the box Eddie got?

I've restored many 1970 E Bodies and have only come across these on "Trans Am" cars. I assume it's to do with the muffler placement under the car. I may have a couple laying around, but because they are not available in reproduction I often restore and reuse them. :alan2cents:

Yes I did.

Digging through my picture collection.  From Troy's T/A...

I was able to acquire the assembly drawing for the plug.  The date on the drawing is 8-24-1943 and originally designed for the aeronautics industry as a "patch plug" which means, if you find them, well cost dearly.  Also, it appears the brick red rubber was added sometime later, probably for the automotive industry since the original design didn't use it.  For the company reproducing the larger shock access plug, these would be a piece of cake to reproduce.

Floyd

Excellent!  That zinc chromate primer on the fastener sure looks like something an aeronautical application.

Originally manufactured for Beechcraft.

FWIW, my original 1970 Barracuda convertible rear footwells have the metal body plug. I'm missing the one on the left side and might just use rubber ones when the footwells are replaced.

Also, just to clarify. Look at the second picture, which body plug is @Floyd actually looking for, 1 or 2. According to the first post it's #1 but the thread seemed to go off on a tangent mentioning the footwell one.

Floyd

Number one looks like the shock access plug from the trunk floor.  The one I'm after is about 1.5-1.75" diameter.  The metal part on the small one is slightly concave as well.  The shock access plug is flat.

You can buy that other metal floor plug (#2) from DMT.  I just got a set:

@Jay Bee  If you're ever out this way, I have tons of used ones you can have, or remind me before Spring Fling if you're going.
