some adjustments - you have too many items noted as STANDARD

STEERING WHEEL The first two code: (STYLE)
04 = 3 Spoke Steering Wheel (S81) STANDARD
20 = 3 Spoke Rim Blow Steering Wheel (S83)
22 = 3 Spoke Steering Wheel (included w/A93)
87 = is there an 87 also?
92 = do you have a sheet with a steering wheel coded 92?

STEERING WHEEL The second set up double codes: (COLOR)
TT = WOODGRAIN
TX = WOODGRAIN & BLACK
X9 = BLACK

Horn Pad The first two codes: (STYLE)
02 = HORN & Standard Pad
21 = Rim Blow Steering Wheel pad for Challenger
22 = Rim Blow Steering Wheel pad for Barracuda
92 = HORN w/partial horn ring & Standard Pad

Horn Pad The second set of double codes: (COLOR)
X9 = Black
B5 = Bright Blue
E5 = Red
F8 = Green
K5 = Burnt Orange
T4 = Tan
99 = special order interior

my Challenger R/T has the S79 - "partial horn ring" wood-grained steering wheel

So glad you're here to help Dan.  Let me check my notes.... stand by.

Cuda Cody

Here's where we are at on the Steering Wheel Codes with your help Dan.  The 26 in the first box was a 1971 E-Body wheel (#4026GX9 w/Coachman Grain 71).  I have taken it out and I'll wait it until we do a 1971 decoder to look in to that code more.  I need to go back over my sheets and see where the 87 numbers was.  I have it noted as Black 1970 4087FX9.

And no record of 92 in the first box under Steering WHEEL.

Row 3 "STEERING WHEEL"
first double digit codes:
04   3 Spoke Steering Wheel (S81) Standard
20   3 Spoke Rim Blow Steering Wheel (S82)
22   A93 Coupe Package 3 spoke Steering Wheel
87   Standard Black 3 Spoke Steering Wheel (this one is in question)

Second Double digit codes:
TT   Woodgrain Steering Wheel
TX   Woodgrain & Black Steering Wheel
X9   Black Steering Wheel

HORN PAD
First double digit codes
02   Horn & Standard Pad
21   Rim Blow Steering Wheel pad for Challenger
22   Rim Blow Steering Wheel pad for Barracuda
92   Horn w/ Partial Horn Ring & Standard Pad

Second double digit codes
X9   Black Horn Pad
B5   Bright Blue Horn Pad
E5   Red Horn Pad
F8   Dark Green Horn Pad
K5   Burnt Orange Horn Pad
T4   Tan Horn Pad
99   Special Order Interior

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner.  I've been to busy for anything other than quick replies lately.  Thanks for your help Dan!  It looks like you guys have made a lot of progress.

It looks like that came from the parts book.

The code that we've seen used on the broadcast sheet for a black steering wheel on Barracudas & Challengers earlier in this thread is 22, and is already listed.

That 1971 X9 Black Coachman Grain wheel might be the black textured wheel you posted earlier in this thread.
Doug Lepak has told me that the 1970 version was smooth, and he provided pictures.
Unfortunately, I'm having some problems with my old external hard drive that contains all of my car notes, so I can't post the pics.
Sounds like I need a new hard drive, and may have to reconstruct my car notes from old backup files if possible.  That will be a chore.  :( Wish me luck!

I might suggest the following changes to the list... (made below in red)
1. additional descriptive identifier for steering wheels.  They're all "3 Spoke" wheels
2. option code listed uniformly at end of line
3. delete steering wheel line item 87
4. since the horn is the part under the hood at the end of the wire, I added the word "Button"
5. interior color codes need corrected as noted?

Row 3 "STEERING WHEEL"
first double digit codes:
04   3 Spoke Woodgrain Steering Wheel (Standard S81)
20   3 Spoke Rim Blow Steering Wheel ( Option S83)
22   3 Spoke Black Steering Wheel (Option A93)
87   Delete this line

Second Double digit codes:
TT   Woodgrain Steering Wheel (Standard S81)
TX   Woodgrain & Black Steering Wheel (Option S83)
X9   Black Steering Wheel (Option A93)

HORN PAD
First double digit codes
02   Horn Button & 3 Spoke Pad (Standard S81 or Option A93)
21   Round Dodge Pad for Challenger Rim Blow Steering Wheel (Option S83)
22   Round Fish Pad for Barracuda Rim Blow Steering Wheel (Option S83)
92   Horn Button with Partial Horn Ring & 3 Spoke Pad (Option S79)

Second double digit codes
X9   Black Horn Pad on any car the doesn't have an A62 Rallye Dash, also on cars with A62 AND either X9 or XW interior
B5   Bright Blue Horn Pad on cars with A62 AND either B5 or BW interior
E5   Red Horn Pad on cars with A62 AND either E5 or EW interior
F8   Dark Green Horn Pad on cars with A62 AND either F8 or FW interior
K5<shouldn't this be K4?   Burnt Orange Horn Pad on cars with A62 AND K4 interior
T4<shouldn't this be T5?   Tan Horn Pad on cars with A62 AND T5 interior
99   Special Order Interior

The Horn Pad / Steering Column / Dash Frame were color coded to the interior on Rallye Dash cars, but left black on non-rallye dash cars.  I hear that some A01 light package cars also received the colored steering column, but haven't seen any paperwork to back it up.  Never say never with Mopar, and if you're pretty sure it's original, document it and restore.

Has anyone actually seen a 99 Special Order Interior?
What did it look like?  I bet that would be an interesting car / broadcast sheet!

6bblgt

I've seen a special interior 440 auto 'cuda - it was ordered EW1/V1X/V5X with the P5X9 (black & white houndstooth w/red piping) Gran Coupe seats - early October car printed on a '69 broadcast sheet.  I have a fax of the broadcast sheet from 2002 - it was on eBay.

VON = J11001
Y05, Y14, Y39
trim = 9999
steering column has 99 for its paint
rim blow horn pad = 2299

written in grease pencil: 9999 SPECIAL P5X9

cataclysm80

That does sound like a pretty amazing 440 'Cuda.

I wonder if it would have had the red door inserts.

Well, I managed to get the old hard drive working long enough to get all of my files off of it.  Car Notes Saved, Yay!!   :veryexcited: :cooldance:

As Doug described, in 1970 there was a smooth black steering wheel.  It's made out of the same stuff as the woodgrain wheels, it's just a different color, so it cracks and need repaired just like the woodgrain wheels.
In 1971 there was a textured black steering wheel.  It's made out of the same stuff as the 1972-1974 wheels, and never has cracks or problems.
Here's some pics so that you can see the difference.

there's a second "SPECIAL ORDER" document that survived/remained with the car that basically states "seat covers, foam & buttons ONLY all else H6X9 components"

cataclysm80

Wow!   I'm glad the documentation survived.  Really cool stuff!
