Would anyone happen to have the goods on decoding master cylinders? I'm wondering if this would be an original to my 70 Challenger. Thanks in advance.

That's a '71-74 disc brake master cylinder.  The good news is that it's OE, they are getting harder to find and someone might need a core to restore for their project, though I have a couple nice cores I've advertised off and on in recent times with zero interest.

One model year only Ebody only 2229171s are worth their weight in gold these days it seems.  The only core I have is a very pitted casting I'd sent up to Brake and Equipment warehouse a while back and after they media blasted it, we decided it wasn't suitable to try to restore.
I should paint it up and use it as a paper weight in my garage!  :1place:

@JH27N0B you have a 70 core?

I'll check this weekend.  I know I have a 70 booster with a master not sure what the master is. Pretty sure it was for drum brakes

Seek and he shall find!

I have to ask.... where did you find it and what did a core cost you?

@xx88man In a way, free. Maybe. When I bought this 70 RT project from a retiring ol boy, he had a ton of parts from swap meets over the years. When we were loading up the project his parts cache became more visible and I started drooling. His wife oversaw it all, arms crossed, glad to see it all going and making sure he followed through. I tested the water by jokingly saying "you probably don't need those two Challenger shaker hoods and that shaker assembly any more". He hesitated and she said "get it gone or we'll trip over it all another 20 years". He shrugged, smiled and said "let's start loading". In the end, a 24' car hauler and my pickup were dangerously overloaded for the 500 mile trip home from Cleveland to Peoria Illinois. Terrifying trip, but I dared not leave one tub. This master cylinder was in a tub with 2 others when I looked last night. I was absolutely elated when I found it last night.

You're a lucky man Kevin. I'm happy that you have one  :drinkingbud:

I probably gave the guy about 5k more than I should have for the whole project, so I felt it fair when his wife made him get rid of his e body stashes. He was left with his beautiful and driveable 68 Hemi dart and a ton more room. Win-win.
